What You Missed…

The devastating fires in California have impacted thousands of people and we are praying for their safety, but the fire has also impacted the entertainment industry. It has destroyed the Western Town set for Westworld,  the Bachelor(ette) House was in flames, and the set of Drunk History had to evacuate due to the fire. Our thoughts are with everyone.

We finally have a name for the Disney streaming service and it is called…drum roll please…Disney+ Variety

What made the announcement even more exciting was the announcement of their programming.

For people who consider Rogue One one of the best Star Wars movies, I rank it right behind behind Empire Strikes Back, than you will be happy to hear that one of the new show that will be streaming on Disney+ is based on Cassian Andor’s life as a rebel spy prior to the events of Rogue One.

Suit 4

We learned in October that we would be getting a show from Jon Favreau that would focus on a certain Bounty Hunter, The Mandalorian. Because of this new show, Industrial Light & Magic created  a new division, ILM TV, that will manage the special effects for these shows.

Disney+ is giving the masses what they want and that includes a show that focuses on Loki, the god of Mischief. Tom Hiddleston will reprise the role that made him famous. Now, everyone is questioning where in the MCU this show fits, but this is not the only Marvel based series in the works. Back in October, we learned that there would be a limited series that would revolve around Bucky Barnes and Falcon. As we know that Cap’s time in the MCU is coming to an end in Avengers 4, it stands to reason that this show will take place after the events in Avengers 4. In September, we heard that their would be a Scarlet Witch show, but neither Disney nor Marvel confirmed that the show would be in the first wave of programming.

While we are talking about premium streaming services, CBS All Access is in talks to create a new Star Trek Spin-off that would focus on Michelle Yeoh’s popular character, Georgiou. If you were at New York Comic-Con, than you would have seen the actress gush about playing her character. Syfy

The CW has given Charmed nine additional episodes, which is the only freshman show to receive a full-season order. Legacies also received more episodes, but it is clocking in at 16 episodes. TVGuide

Casting News:

Legion‘s Jean Smart has joined the cast of HBO’s Watchmen. Her character’s name and description were not released. This is the case for Tell Me a Story‘s James Wolk, who has also joined the much anticipated adaption. Does this mean that we will not get a season 2 of Tell Me a Story? TVLine

I know that this is not a show that falls in line with the items I typically cover, but I love the Bourne movies. So, now that USA’s Treadstone is casting, I’m getting excited for the show. The show will be an origin story for the CIA black ops program known as Operation Treadstone – a covert program that uses behavior-modification protocol to turn recruits into nearly superhuman assassins. The first season follows sleeper agents across the globe as they’re mysteriously “awakened” to resume their deadly missions. Deadline

Jeremy Irvive has been cast as J. Randolph Bentley, a spy dispatched by the CIA to eliminate a key target, but ends up embroiled in an international conspiracy. Brian Smith has been cast to play Doug McKenna, an all-American oil-rig worker whose life changes after he discovers long buried truths about himself. Deadline

The Silver Screen:

Movie-wise, John Boyega and Letitia Wright have signed on to star in the romantic sci-fi movie, Hold Back the Stars. Written by Katie Khan, the story is about Carys and Max who are trapped in a void and only have ninety minutes of oxygen left to live. Why are they in this situation? After a freak accident, Carys and Max are left adrift in space with nothing to hold onto but each other. As they fall, they can’t help but look back at the world they left behind. A world whose rules they couldn’t submit to, a place where they never really belonged; a home they’re determined to get back to because they’ve come too far to lose each other now. While their air ticks dangerously low, one is offered the chance of salvation—but who will take it? THR

Offbeat news:

In the most interesting news of the week, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina and Neflix are being sued by the Satanic Temple for using a likeness of their statue of Bahomet.

Yes, someone did respond to a tweet from the leader of this religion that the likeness that was used on the show is actually represented in the comic books. This will be interesting as religion iconography can be copyrighted.

New Shows, Casting News, and The Return of Veronica Mars?

Happy Hump Day!

I started off blogging when True Blood came out, so I have always kept tabs on the cast since the show ended. Alexander Skarsgard (Big Little Lies, True Blood, Generation Kill) is slated to appear in The Little Drummer Girl by John le Carré. This production is a joint venture between the BBC and AMC, similar to the partnership for The Night Manager.

From the Press Release:

NEW YORK, NY – August 21, 2018 – AMC today announced “The Little Drummer Girl,” will premiere in the U.S. as a must-watch, three-night television event with a two-hour episode on November 19 at 9:00 P.M. ET/PT. Additional two-hour episodes will air on consecutive nights at 9:00 P.M. ET/PT on November 20 and November 21.

Based on John le Carré’s best-selling literary masterpiece of the same name, “The Little Drummer Girl” is a six-part miniseries starring Emmy® and Golden Globe®Award-winner Alexander Skarsgård (“Big Little Lies”) as Becker, twice Academy Award-nominated and Tony-nominated Michael Shannon (The Shape of Water, Nocturnal Animals) as Kurtz and BAFTA-nominated Florence Pugh (Lady Macbeth) as Charlie.

Blurring the fine lines between love and hate; truth and fiction; and right and wrong; “The Little Drummer Girl” weaves a suspenseful and explosive story of espionage and high-stakes international intrigue. Set in the late 1970s, the pulsating thriller follows Charlie (Pugh), a fiery actress and idealist whose resolve is tested after she meets the mysterious Becker (Skarsgård,) while on holiday in Greece. It quickly becomes apparent that his intentions are not what they seem, and her encounter with him entangles her in a complex plot devised by the spy mastermind Kurtz (Shannon). Charlie takes on the role of a lifetime as a double agent while remaining uncertain of her own loyalties.

“The Little Drummer Girl,” which hails from the executive producers of the Golden Globe and Emmy Award-winning series “The Night Manager,” marks the television debut of visionary filmmaker Park Chan-wook (Oldboy, The Handmaiden, Stoker) and was filmed at locations including the streets of London and Prague and architectural phenomena such as the Acropolis in Athens and the Temple of Poseidon in Greece’s Attica Peninsula.

Fans of Veronica Mars, I’m one, Rejoice! Hulu, is in talks to revive, not reboot, Veronica Mars. The best part is…Kristen Bell would slip on her gumshoes again. EW

Odds and Ends:

When Stranger Things returns, it will be inspired by Fletch! Variety

A show to watch is Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan. Even though I prefer the character of John Clark, Jack Ryan is the every man that works at the CIA and is thrust in to impossible scenarios and somehow comes out of it alive. In the premiere, CIA analyst Jack Ryan uncovers a series of suspicious transactions that take him and his boss James Greer out from behind their desks into the field to hunt down… The show will air on Amazon on August 31st!

If you love Rom-Coms, go watch To All the Boys that I’ve Loved Before on Netflix. It takes us back to a time when the story of girl and boy work together to either fend off the advances of one person or to get someone super jealous after they break it off and ultimately realize that the person they should be focusing on is the one that is helping them out. If you are on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, or whatever…than you have seen the posts dedicated to Peter Kavinsky. But, the whole cast did a great job and I hope they make this a trilogy!
