What You Missed…

As Tony Stark says, “Part of the journey is the end…” And that is what we are getting as we get our first promo for Avengers: End Game.

This movie will tie up the first 10 years of the MCU and allows it to move on to a new slate of storylines and characters that will help it continue to dominate the comic-book based movie franchise wars.

Who knew Ant-Man would be a sign of hope for Captain America and the fans of the MCU. This movie is slated to be released in October 2018.

Captain Marvel, which will be out in March, also released a new trailer:

While, Captain Marvel is the hope that the Avengers need…she is the character that a good percentage of the population has been craving for. A Marvel hero that can rival Wonder Woman. How she set’s us up for End Game will be interesting to see.

While we are on the topic of female-centric superheroes, we are happy to announce that Jodie Whitaker will indeed be back for season 12 of the BBC’s cult classic series that revolves around the adventures of a Time Lord named “the Doctor”, an extraterrestrial being with two hearts. Now, the news outlets have stated that this bit of news would quash any worries that fans had about Jodie leaving the series. Well, season 12 was never an issue. It was actually season 13 of Doctor Who that people were worried about. Whatever the case may be, it is nice to get confirmation that we will continue to see Ms. Whitaker again as the Doctor for another few episodes.

It seems like there is no lagging in the foreseeable future when it comes to superhero programming for movies and TV. Fans want it and the networks and movie studios are happily offering whatever they can get their hands on.

Case in point, Plastic Man, which will be developed by the WB as part of their DC slate of movies. If you do not who Plastic Man is, here is a bit of info on the humorous character that was popular in the late 70s and early 80s. Variety

Plastic Man was a crook named Patrick “Eel” O’Brian. Orphaned at age 10 and forced to live on the streets, he fell into a life of crime. As an adult, he became part of a burglary ring, specializing as a safe-cracker. During a late-night heist at the Crawford Chemical Works, he and his three fellow gang members were surprised by a night watchman. During the gang’s escape, Eel was shot in the shoulder and doused with a large drum of unidentified chemical liquid. He escaped to the street only to discover that his gang had driven off without him.

Fleeing on foot and suffering increasing disorientation from the gunshot wound and the exposure to the chemical, Eel eventually passed out on the foothills of a mountain near the city. He awoke to find himself in a bed in a mountain retreat, being tended to by a monk who had discovered him unconscious that morning. This monk, sensing a capacity for great good in O’Brian, turned away police officers who had trailed Eel to the monastery. This act of faith and kindness—combined with the realization that his gang had left him to be captured without a moment’s hesitation—fanned Eel’s longstanding dissatisfaction with his criminal life and his desire to reform. Plastic Man, coupled with 2019’s Shazam is a clear indication that the DC Extended Universe is taking a break from the much more tradition fare of serious movies that we have seen in recent years. With that said, we learned from Amy Adams during the Actors on Actors series that she is out of the DCEU:

“I think I’m out of the DC Universe now.  I think they’re revamping that. I don’t know the details.”

This makes sense as Henry Cavill has moved on to The Witcher on Netflix.

Amazon is also throwing itself deeper into the superhero pool with the announcement that it is developing Deadtown which is based on The Refrigerator Monologues, by Catherynne M. Valente. The collection of short stories  come from the points of view of the wives and girlfriends of superheroes, female heroes, and anyone who’s ever been “refrigerated”: comic book women who are killed, raped, brainwashed, driven mad, disabled, or had their powers taken so that a male superhero’s storyline will progress. These women meet in a purgatory like area called Deadtown. Syfy Wire

Thanks to Chris Hemsworth, we have our first look at the Men in Black reboot:

Anime fans, you may be thrilled or upset by the fact that Netflix is adapting Masamune Shirow’s Ghost in the Shell manga, titled Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045. The series will air in 2020. TVLine

One last bit of news that makes all of you 90s kids thrilled. We have the Kim Possible live action movie trailer from Disney:

Now, if you follow me on social media than you know that I am a sucker for a gimmick that makes the movie experience all the more fun. I went to see Mission Impossible: Fall Out in 4DX and it was the most fun I have ever had in 4DX…wait embuste, I watched one Marvel movie and I remember the water spraying on my face as Captain America hurled himself down during a storm and I almost fell of the chair. I told everyone, only purchase a ticket for 4DX if you know you will be in a roller coaster ride of action during the movie. So, we learned of the upcoming slate of movies from SONY that will air in that 4DX in 2019 and two of the movies that may be worth forking over so much money is Spider-Man: Far From Home and Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle sequel. However, I suggest you wait and see the first round of reviews from fans to see if it is worth watching in that format.

There is also ScreenX.  This is a new immersive cinema experience that has every wall in the theater acting as a movie screen. Now, Aquaman will air in that format and that may be the movie to watch it as a chunk of the movie is under water.

Reminders: Set your DVRs or mark your calendar as busy, because The CW’s Arrowverse crossover event, Elseworlds, starts on Sunday.

DEC 10 – Arrow – Elseworlds, Part 2 – With Oliver and Barry still stuck in the other’s bodies, the two get a lead on John Deegan and head to Gotham City with Supergirl to figure out why their reality has changed.

DEC 11 – Supergirl – Elseworlds, Part 3 – Supergirl, The Flash, Green Arrow and Superman engage in the battle of their lives.

Also, on DEC 14, the Chilling Adventure of Sabrina will air their Holiday special on Netflix.

And the Nominees Are…And More…

Well, it seems like everyone has started to toss their hats into the “Why Exactly Did Netflix Cancel Daredevil?” ring. The show was a fan favorite and doing quite well numbers-wise. Again it is all about to powerhouse who are about to go head-to-head in the streaming wars. Who else has written about this? TV Guide, Deadline, etc..

On the upside, we finally got a teaser for the upcoming final season of Game of Thrones:

The other happy news is that American Gods has a premiere date for the second season, and that is Sunday, March 10 at 8/7c.

Image-1Gotham is just around the corner and this may be the best promo for a TV show in a very long time, click on the link:

Here is the latest trailer for The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina:

For fans of Asian quirky dramas and Asian Pop music, Netflix has nabbed “Demon’s Path,” from Malaysia’s Astro group. The show will start airing on Dec. 22.

The series follows a forensic pathologist who has the ability to see the last 10-seconds of life of the dead. Working together with a friendly exorcist and a policeman, they solve homicide cases. But as their investigations proceed, they become the target of a murderer. Variety

As it is the middle of December, that means one thing…awards season is just around the corner. Today, we got to see who was nominated for the Golden Globes awards. Here are the ones that we consider important (I highlighted the ones I am rooting for):

What You Missed…

A lot happened while I was away, I’ll get to that in a bit.

To the chagrin of many Whovians, we learned that we were not getting a Christmas special, but we were getting a…

Honestly, this is a gift from the show. Fans should just be quiet and be grateful.

However, as to appease the desires of the fans, starting December 24th… there will be a marathon of not only all of the Christmas specials, but all of the episodes in the following order and I believe the order is set via popularity: 12, 9, 10, 11, 13. This leads to the January 1 New Year’s episode.

Here is the synopsis: As the New Year begins, a terrifying evil is stirring from across the centuries of Earth’s history. Will the Doctor, Ryan, Graham and Yaz be able to overcome this threat to Planet Earth?

Isn’t that the premise to all of the Doctor Who episodes? I kid.

We have the official trailer for season 4 of The Magicians:

In a shocking move, ABC has given a 7th season renewal to Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. The sixth season does not premiere until the Summer. Syfy Wire

New Shows: Hulu is taking off their gold hoop earrings as they have snatched up George R.R. Martin’s Wild Cards series and they are creating now one, but two shows from it.

Wild Cards is a series of science fiction superhero shared universe anthologies, mosaic novels, and solo novels written by a collection of more than forty authors referred to as the Wild Cards Trust and edited by George R. R. Martin and co-edited by Melinda M. Snodgrass. Set largely during an alternate history of post-World War II United States, the series follows humans who contracted the Wild Card virus, an alien virus that rewrites DNA and mutates survivors; those who acquire minor or crippling physical conditions are known as Jokers, and those who acquire superhuman abilities are known as Aces. Wiki

Hulu is also picking up Sweet Tooth. It is the coming-of-age fable of Gus, a boy/deer hybrid who leaves home to find the world ravaged by a cataclysmic event. He joins a ragtag family of hybrids and humans searching to find answers behind the event…ultimately discovering a vast conspiracy that forces him to question his very existence. Deadline

Casting: With Disney’s streaming service announcement, we are hearing more and more of the casting for the much anticipated Mandalorian show from Jon Favreau:

Pedro Pascal will play the lone gunfighter who has manged to escape the the authority of the New Republic on the outer reaches of the galaxy after the fall of the Empire and just before the rise of the First Order. The show will allow the viewers to learn more about the warrior tribe.

It was also announced that Gina Carano was also joining the series that will be directed by the likes of  Taike Waititi, Bryce Dallas Howard, Deborah Chow, to name just a few… TV Guide

Jon Cryer has been cast to play the infamously popular villain, Lex Luthor on Supergirl. He will pop up in 2019. THR

There is talk that a studio is trying to revive The Saint and Chris Pratt may be the star. I am not in the business of casting, but I have seen the show that starred Roger Moore and the movie that starred Val Kilmer. I even remember the movie that starred Eliza Dushku. Chris Pratt is not someone you would easily associate as being suave or someone that could be known as a thief. Now, Richard Madden…I could see him doing it or a youngish Bond.

TV Reviews:

These are quick little reviews as I watched these shows while in transit.

Riverdale: In the Great Escape, Veronica devises a dangerous plan to break Archie out of juvie; Betty finds herself in a race against the clock to save Jughead when takes his investigation a step too far. When we last left Betty, we saw her take in the sight of all her peers playing the dreaded G&G game. She is not pleased with Jug’s downward spiral in to the game, even if it is for a noble cause. He is determined to take down the Gargoyle King, but we fear that Juggie’s intentions may be for naught as he may be dragged down deeper in to the rabbit hole by individuals who are in the pocket of the Gargoyle King. Case in point, the warden at the Juvie detention center.

How do we know this? Well, we watch Ronnie, Betty, Josie, Reggie, and Kevin work together to get Archie out with the intel they learned from the local casino owner. They succeeded pulling the wool over the eyes of everyone…including the Warden, who decided to ingest cyanide after acknowledging that he had failed his quest to kill the Red Paladin. The Red Paladin is Archie.

This rescue puts a deeper wrench into everyone’s lives in the Lodge household. The Mayor is Hermione and she has so much on her plate that she cannot deal with the insanity that is the power struggle between Veronica and Hiram. The death of the Warden and the disappearance of Archie Andrews will not help. One thing for sure, Hermione is as perplexed as we are over the obsession that Hiram has with Archie. This is more than just Veronica…there is something else going on with this guy. Is it the Gargoyle King?

Reel it back to camp Jones. Juggie is dealing with a slight uprising for power as he is the Game Master. He puts a kibosh on it, but as we that he has an uncanny knack to see things through the game, the Gargoyle King becomes intrigued with Juggie. This is not a good thing.

The only thing that is good is that the gang is working together to keep Archie safe, but there is a chink in one’s armor. Who will that be?

Next: Manhunter – Betty follows some strong leads in hopes of finding out who the true Gargoyle King is; Veronica’s attempt to prove Archie’s innocence lands her in hot water.

Doctor Who: In Demons in the Punjab, Yasmin travels in time to visit her grandmother during her youth in the partition of India, but everyone gets caught up in the tragic bloodshed of that era as the Doctor discovers that demons are haunting the land. Who are they and what do they want?

Can I just say that I am not totally understanding why people are so unhappy that this show is allowing itself to go deeper in to the lives of the companions. If it is historical, fine. But, these episodes give us insight into the characters.

Let me digress, now this episode dealt with Yaz and the person that has the most impact on her…her Gran. Gran, who is celebrating her birthday, is feeling like her time on this planet is short, so she bestows these mementos from her past to her children and grandchildren. Yaz’ gift was a broken watch. We are led to believe it was from their grandfather, but as the episode progresses we learn that this was from the man her Gran first married just as India was about to separated into India and Pakistan. This was a man that sacrificed his life so that his wife and her family could escape before they get swept into riots that the Partition caused and he was killed by his own brother…who believed that Hindus were not to marry Muslims. Such a sad story, but if it had not happened…we would not have had our Yaz.

What was sweet was that Graham put things in perspective for Yaz, just as she starts to feel like she did not know her Gran at all. This was just the first love that started the journey that turned this young woman into Yaz’ Gran. Graham is just so sweet as he hugs Prem before he gets married because he knows that Prem is not going to survive the day. If I were him, I would have been a weeping mess.

Next: Kerblam! – A mysterious message arrives in a package addressed to the Doctor, leading her, Graham, Yaz and Ryan to investigate the warehouse moon orbiting Kandoka, and the home of the galaxy’s

PS – I had to take a few days off because my office is in the process of moving and that is a taxing task. Then I got to see Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, parts one and two, as well as The Crimes of Grindlewald. All great, but we cannot divulge the secrets of anything J.K. Rowling-related, can we? Then there was a storm that knocked NYC for a loop and had us stranded in the middle of nowhere, but I am now back to the day-to-day of geekiness.

What You Missed…

After a crazy few days, we get back to the business of all things Geek.

Before we start, we just want to mention that the networks are starting their renewal/cancellations phase of the traditional 18-19 TV season. If your new show is on the verge of being put on the chopping block, than I suggest you light a candle and pray to the TV gods.

For fans of The Purge, rejoice, the show has been given a second season.

Besides the announcement of a Breaking Bad movie being made and Andrew Lincoln leaving The Walking Dead series, it has been pretty quiet. Here we go…

We learned that Kelly Ripa, wife to Mark Consuelos a.k.a. Hiram Lodge on Riverdale, will be playing Hiram’s mistress on the popular nighttime drama.

The DC Universe has found their Swamp Thing and the Swamp Thing will be portrayed by Derek Mears. But, the Swamp Thing was first Alec Holland, a passionate biologist who finds himself in nightmarish circumstances as he realizes that the bizarre disease affecting townspeople may have come as a result of his work in the swamp. This discovery that leads him to confront dark swamp forces which swallow him up, only to emerge as the hero known as Swamp Thing. Alec Holland will be portrayed by Andy Bean. Variety

Greg Kinnear is in talk to join the mini-series adaptation of War of the Worlds. The story is of a small town in California that is attacked by Martians, beginning a worldwide invasion. Syfy

Writer’s Room:

Explorers the movie will be adapted for a TV series. Cary Fukunaga and David Lowery are writing the pilot. In the movie, that launched Ethan Hawke and River Phoenix’ careers, we follow a boy who is obsessed with 50s sci-fi movies about aliens has a recurring dream about a blueprint of some kind, which he draws for his inventor friend. With the help of a third kid, they follow it and build themselves a spaceship. IMDB

Toby Whithouse will be adapting Gormenghast for TV. The books follow the inhabitants of Castle Gormenghast, a sprawling, decaying, gothic-like structure with a raft of characters including Titus, the heir to the throne of the House of Groan, scheming kitchen boy Steerpike and twin sisters Cora and Clarice. Neil Gaiman and Akiva Goldsman will be executive producers on the project. Deadline

In Production:

Before the wave of paranormal/sci-fi/fantasy programming staked their claim as being binge-worthy, HBO aired a really great western show called Deadwood. The series lasted for 36 episodes and revolved around the 1870s in Deadwood, South Dakota before and after the area’s annexation by the Dakota Territory. The show featured an ensemble cast some of which were key historical figures like Wyatt Earp, Wild Bill Hickok, Calamity Jane, Jack McCall, to name a few. The show was cancelled, but we’ve learned that filming for the Deadwood movie has begun. David Milch penned the script, Daniel Minahan is directing, and actors Ian McShane and Timothy Olyphant are two of the executive producers. THR

Last Minute:

With Supernatural still trucking along, it made sense that The CW would nab the Survivor’s Club. The story is based in a world where horror franchise monsters are real, twins Jason and Jennifer barely survived a demonic childhood possession that claimed their mother’s life and fractured their bond. Ten years later, when a new evil force awakens, the siblings join forces with other teen survivors to combat the literal and metaphorical monsters that haunt them. The source material is owned by DC Vertigo. The show will be written by Jared Frieder and Frieder and Len Goldstein will executive produce the series. Deadline

Knowing that the final episode of Andrew Lincoln on The Walking Dead finally gave the series an uptick, numbers-wise, this season. Do you think the loss of Rick Grimes will be detrimental to the series or do you think it will rally?

Have a Happy Hump Day!

And You Thought We Were Out of the Whole Vampire TV Shows Era…and more news…

True Blood, Moonlight, The Strain, The Vampire Diaries, and The Originals may have gone to the wayside, that does not mean that you Vampire lovers out there should lose hope, The Last American Vampire will be adapted for TV by NBC.

The show is based on a book by Seth Grahame-Smith, who also wrote Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter. In the book, we meet Henry Sturges during Reconstruction-era America. Henry is a vampire that is  searching for renewed purpose in the wake of his friend Abraham Lincoln’s shocking death. Henry’s will be an expansive journey that first sends him to England for an unexpected encounter with Jack the Ripper, then to New York City for the birth of a new American century, the dawn of the electric era of Tesla and Edison, and the blazing disaster of the 1937 Hindenburg crash. Deadline

CBS has picked up DC’s the Secret Six. The Secret Six is the name of three different fictional comic book teams in the DC Comics Universe. Each team has had six members, led by a mysterious figure named Mockingbird, whom the characters assume to be one of the other five members. Some members have included Bane, Harley Quinn, Lex Luthor, the Mad Hatter, and the Penguin. Variety

The Witcher has cast some key roles. Freya Allan will portray Ciri, Princess of Cintra. Anya Chalotra will play Yennefer. Deadline

So, the numbers came back from the premiere episode of The Walking Dead and it was not good. It lost almost half of its audience, but AMC swears that this show will be the cornerstone of their channel. That cannot happen when the cornerstones of the show itself are being killed off. Fans were emotionally invested in the characters they met in season 1 and you can only put fans through so much. When I was at NYCC, a kid told me that the reason he and his Father stopped watching the show was that it was the same thing all the time. The Dad piped up and said there was no light at the end of the tunnel for any of the characters. So, why keep watching?

Now, dropping the bomb that Andrew Lincoln was leaving prior to the season airing was in itself a huge mistake. Hope keeps fans engaged. Knowing that Rick will be reaching the end of his road…to sit through that and know that is coming. Why would I put myself through that.

What You May Have Missed at #NYCC

A lot happened since I last posted, but I did go to NYCC and I grabbed some intel as well as the videos that popped up over the 4 1/2 days of New York City’s biggest and geekiest annual event.

Good Omens:

The End is Nigh! This was the panel I was really looking forward to at NYCC. This show is based on the popular book by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. In the book:

The world will end on Saturday. Next Saturday, to be exact. Just before dinner, according to The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch, the world’s only completely accurate book of prophecies written in 1655. The armies of Good and Evil are amassing and everything appears to be going according to Divine Plan. Except that a somewhat fussy angel and a fast-living demon are not actually looking forward to coming rapture. And someone seems to have misplaced the Antichrist.

In the panel we learned that we will be hearing a lot of music from Queen. In the book there is a recurring joke that all the music tapes in Crowley’s car are songs from Queen’s greatest music tape. The reason for this is that that the authors, they realized that whenever they were in a car…there was always a greatest music tape in the car. That carried over to the show.

David Tennant’s Crowley the Demon and Michael Sheen’s Aziraphale the Angel, deny that they are close friends, but they have crosses paths over the course of 6000 years and now find themselves clinging to one another in the midst of trying to 1. Find the antichrist, 2. stop the world from ending, and 3. avoid the annoying Gabriel (Played by John Hamm) and his thuggish angel sidekick. Miranda Richardson plays Madame Tracey who can channel Aziraphale. What was evident is that there love amongst the creators and cast. They explained the lunacy of filming this six episode limited series. They would spend a couple of hours filming a scene showing the main characters in Elizabethan times in full Elizabethan outfits at the Globe at the premiere of Hamlet and then a couple of hours later they were somewhere new to film another scene. So, filming this whole universe was a huge undertaking. They even managed to film some of the key footnotes.

With all the clips we saw in the NYCC panel, I think we basically saw an overview of the first season. The most interesting bits evolved around Matt and Sister Maggie. Maggie is a tough, no nonsense nun that ends up being the tether that Matt needs to come back from the brink giving up on everything. Karen and Foggy are back and they too give Matt that support he needs in order to stop Fisk (whose goal is to save his girl from suffering his fate in jail) and..Bullseye. Let me tell you, watching the fight scenes between Matt and Dex aka Bullseye was painful. The Spanish came out of me as Matt was pummeled by inanimate objects. A lot of “Aye dios mio” going on. This will be a great season to watch.

Star Trek: Discovery:

We got to see the whole cast at NYCC and Sonequa was in full effect as she squealed and touted the greatness of Ethan Peck as our new and bearded Spock. We learned that at the core of the season is the mystery of the Red Angel and these seven signals that the crew, headed by Pike (who uses his crew to help figure stuff out), go after. We will also see L’Rell become much more feminine which is evident in her growing out her hair, new attire, and her relationship with Tyler. Then these is Saru. We will meet his sister and see his home planet as we see his character evolve. All in all, all these characters are confronting challenges and we watch them overcome them.

My favorite part revolved around Tilly and Stamitz, Anthony Rapp’s character tells Tilly that she is incandescent because everything she does comes from love. Also, Michelle Yeoh loves playing the sexy Mirror Universe version of Giorgio who works for Section 31. You could tell she was having a good time playing this character that is in the black ops of the Federation and also playing the person that everyone believes is the nice captain Giorgio that everyone thinks she is.

There was casting news at the event, Sonequa’s husband will be on the show.

Gotham – First Look at the final Season:

Yes, Shane West is Bane. But, the best of news from the panel is that in the finale we will jump ahead a decade and we will see Batman. No air date still…who knows what is going on over at FOX.

Deadly Class:

The show will air on January 16th at 10 pm est on Syfy.

DC’s Titans:

This is not your Saturday morning type of show, it is much darker. We shall see the evolution of Robin to Nightwing and the costumes will evolve from street wear to the classic costumes that fans love. Ahead of the show’s premiere on October 12th, the show was picked up for a second season.

Just so you know, this is a timeline of what’s to come for the DC Streaming Service:

  • Titans
  • Young Justice
  • Doom Patrol
  • Swamp Thing
  • Stargirl
  • Harley Quinn
  • We also learned that Krypton will be on the service at the tail end of 2019. Interesting…

The Magicians First Look at Season 4:

The Magicians – We know that at the end of the last season, that the characters (who have new identities) will be dealing with a monster that has jumped into the body of Eliot and we will see what havoc that monster creates for the Magicians and others. Also, the cast will participate in a Facebook Live interaction with fans and host Candis Cayne on Thursday, Oct. 18. The show will air on January 23rd on Syfy.

So, we saw the first episode at NYCC and it was all hopeful until they crossed paths with a certain someone and then that person made the last few minutes heart-wrenching. We did learn that this season, there is no fear of Jamie and Claire separating and that the season would be of them settling down in pre-revolutionary United States and create a home for themselves. The show will air on November 4th.

Remember, there are a lot of new characters to look forward to:

  • Maria Doyle Kennedy – Jocasta Cameron
  • Ed Speleers – Stephen Bonnet, who is worse than Black Jack Randall.
  • Billy Boyd – Gerald Forbes
  • Caitlin O’Ryan – Lizzie Wemyss
  • Natalie Simpson – Phaedre
  • Tim Downie – Governor William Tryon
  • Simona Brown – Gayle
  • Rollo the Dog

Also, the season was filmed in Scotland.

The Gifted:

Like where we are now, in the show the country is divided. In that world, it is divided over Mutant rights. We will get to see Polaris as a child and we to see the history of The Frosts. While we see the Mutant underground vs. the Inner Circle. They’re also introducing the Morlocks into the season, and there’s something really appealing about their society and how they live. Add in the Purifiers and it will be an interesting season. Because they are not really in opposition because they are trying to help the Mutant race, they are at odds at how to make their beliefs come to fruition. Also. there is a chance we will see the X-Men on the show, because even if it is the mythos of the show that the X-Men have dissipated, Jeff Loeb says anything is possible.

Riverdale and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina:

First up – They cast Juggie’s Mom and Sister!

In the panel we learned that there will be Falice moments, because she is distracting herself from the revelation of Hal being the Black Hood and the issue with the Farm. However, with Gladys and Jellybean back (Gina Gershon will play the Serpent with a GED, Gladys Jones, Trinity Likins will play Jellybean. They will be debut on the December 12th episode and they are recurring characters)m it should be an interesting time for Falice. They are not the only couple who will be having problems.

Varchie fans prepare yourselves, it seems like the these two lovebirds will indeed be having issues. Separation does not always make the heart grow fonder. But, for Archie…Jughead is there for him, while he is fighting for his life.

Bughead fans that loved the Detective Duo in season 1 and in season 3 they are back, but think more like True Detective. They will be back as they investigate an “epidemic in Riverdale.” It is a very dark and twisty mystery.

Reinhart stated that, “It involves everyone in the town, and it’s kind of a crisis.” She added that by the end of episode one, Betty is left in a vulnerable state which ends in a cliffhanger. Dun, dun, duuuuuuuuuun. She also throws herself into her internship and But, there are quite a few mysteries that Betty is involved in.

The big bad of season three is the Gargoyle King that torments the kids of Riverdale.

There is a character from the comics, Evelyn Evernever, that causes trouble for Betty. And her father will pop up, Edgar.

In the throwback episode, the kids play the parents in a story that will focus on the parents when they were in H.S. This episode is the 4th episode and it will air on Halloween.

While both Riverdale and Greendale are in the same universe, these shows are pretty different. This show kind of reminded me of Buffy because there is a level of fun to it, but it is clearly a darker horror-based show. Sabrina is a powerful young woman that is dealing with the trials and tribulations of being a young human woman, but she also has this witch aspect to her life. In the pilot, it is evident that Sabrina is unsure about which world she wants to live in. However, being selfless and brave is at her core. In her world there are her aunts, played by Miranda Otto and Lucy Davis, Zelda (forthright and domineering and much more of the Father-like parent to Sabrina) and Hilda (loves the rebellious side of Sabrina and is much more nurturing) respectively and they have a typical sibling relationship where they work off of each other, but they love one another. Her cousin Ambrose, a pansexual. The actor who plays Ambrose called his characters relationship to Sabrina as “Alfred to Sabrina’s Batman.” Regarding Sabrina’s boyfriend, Harvey, his family has been in Greendale for generations and he continues to be a great boyfriend to Sabrina. Is there a Salem? Yes! But, it is not the Salem of the 90s.

Regarding the other characters:

  • Tati Gabrielle – Prudence
  • Richard Coyle – Father Blackwood
  • Bronson Pinchot – high school principal George Hawthorne
  • Michelle Gomez – Plays both Miss Wardell, Sabrina’s teacher, and Madam Satan — whom Michelle says, “…a joy to work with as such rich source material and that her character is more than just evil.

In regards to a crossover, right no. But, down the line…maybe.

The show will air on Netflix on October 26th and will have 10 episodes.

Marvel’s The Runaways:

Now, I know I was not a big fan of the majority of the show, but by the end of the inaugural season…I started to see hope in this group of kids who were cast out of the safe world that they lived in (by their own parents)…into the deep dark world that we all know and love. They eat at Pride soup kitchens and sleep under the underpasses. In regards to Pride, they have a new HQ. I actually work for a charity and let me tell you…nope.

So, the kids are still on the lam, but they finally find a place they can call home and it is the well known Hostel.

While Nico and Karolina are going strong in the second season. Nico has a lot to deal with, but she becomes the leader of the group due to her empathy and independence. Karolina is also trying to get answers about her family and getting comfortable with her powers.

Alex goes on his own journey (due to what happened at the end of season 1 and forms a new kinship that evolves) and he finds a new love interest and she comes in the shape of Darius’s sister-in-law.

Molly wants to be a superhero and have adventures and she does comes in to her own as she is the most street-wise of the group.

Chase is becoming a man in the second season. We also see the growth of Gert and Chase’s relationship, but there is the issue of Gert’s need of medication. Due to the group not having any money, there is no medication. The actor, Sulkin, says that “You never know someone until you live with them.”

In regards of Old Lace, Old Lace finds her place in the group and gets her own story arc.

Parent-wise, Robert is looking for justice. The Wilders want to get out of Pride and get their son back, but they have different ways of doing it.

Casting news – Jan Louis Castellanos who will play Topher.

That’s it for me…

You know what was odd…no Arrowverse shows.

Can’t wait for next year’s Comic-con.

Prior to the Con, the following news dropped:

Netflix to develop series and films based on C.S. Lewis’ beloved THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA

Hollywood, Calif. – October 3, 2018 — Netflix will develop new series and film projects based on C.S. Lewis’ beloved The Chronicles of Narnia series. Under the terms of a multi-year deal between Netflix and The C.S. Lewis Company, Netflix will develop classic stories from across the Narnia universe into series and films for its members worldwide. All series and films produced through the deal will be Netflix productions, with Mark Gordon of Entertainment One (eOne) alongside Douglas Gresham and Vincent Sieber serving as executive producers for series and as producers for features. In total the Narnia books have sold more than 100 million copies and been translated in more than 47 languages worldwide. The deal marks the first time that rights to the entire seven books of the Narnia universe have been held by the same company.

“C.S. Lewis’ beloved Chronicles of Narnia stories have resonated with generations of readers around the world,” said Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer, Netflix. “Families have fallen in love with characters like Aslan and the entire world of Narnia, and we’re thrilled to be their home for years to come.”

“It is wonderful to know that folks from all over are looking forward to seeing more of Narnia, and that the advances in production and distribution technology have made it possible for us to make Narnian adventures come to life all over the world,” said Douglas Gresham, stepson of C.S. Lewis. “Netflix seems to be the very best medium with which to achieve this aim, and I am looking forward to working with them towards this goal.”

“Narnia is one of those rare properties that spans multiple generations and geographies,” said Mark Gordon, eOne’s President and Chief Content Officer, Film & Television. “eOne and I are excited to be collaborating with The C.S. Lewis Company and Netflix who have the capacity to translate the Narnia universe into both stellar feature-length and episodic programming. We cannot wait to get started on the multiple productions we hope to undertake.”

For Archie Comics fans,  they will be adding two new mini- series in 2019, BLOSSOMS 666 and JUGHEAD: THE HUNGER VS. VAMPIRONICA! Yes, I am a fan of the horror comics from Archie Comics.
For Game of Thrones Fans, Jon Snow’s Ghost will be back in the final season of the beloved and stress-inducing series.
That is it for me. Have a great week! Now, I am going to try to recover.

Cavill Hanging Up His Red Cape and More…

It looks like Henry Cavill has officially moved on from the DC extended universe.

Due to scheduling conflicts that did not allow the British actor to make a cameo in Shazam, a new commitment to The Witcher series, and DC focusing on a much younger version of Clark Kent in The Supergirl movie, THR

It just seems like the time is right for the actor move on. It is also the perfect opportunity for DC to tweak their formula for the movies. I still believe there is something about the Arrowverse and other DC TV shows that allows them to grab the attention of and sustain its fans. The movies just have to figure what that magic ingredient is…writing!

He definitely has a flair for the dramatic.

Will you miss Henry Cavill as Superman?

I will miss him in glasses.

Continuing with Casting News, Katherine Langford of 13 Reasons Why and Love, Simon will star in Netflix’ Cursed. If you do not know about the project, here is some info from a March press release:

Cursed is based on an upcoming book of the same name, Cursed is a re-imagining of the Arthurian legend, told through the eyes of Nimue (portrayed by Katherine Langford), a teenage heroine with a mysterious gift who is destined to become the powerful (and tragic) Lady of the Lake. After her mother’s death, she finds an unexpected partner in Arthur, a young mercenary, in a quest to find Merlin and deliver an ancient sword. Over the course of her journey, Nimue will become a symbol of courage and rebellion against the terrifying Red Paladins, and their complicit King Uther. There are 10 episodes slated.

Netflix has shifted from its touting of young love to all things that go bump in the night thanks to the new show, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

Sabrina This is not the Sabrina you grew up with and if you want to get a little background on this character before the premiere, check out the comic series at your local comic book shop.

One of the best things about British TV is that it likes to dip a toe into classic sci-fi and it ends up churning out some of the best shows on TV. So, when we heard that HBO was going to co-produce and distribute His Dark Materials, I was ecstatic.  His Dark Materials is an epic trilogy of fantasy novels by Philip Pullman which consist of Northern Lights, The Subtle Knife, and The Amber Spyglass. The series revolves around two children, Lyra Belacqua and Will Parry. We follow their adventures as they wander through a series of parallel universes.

The cast includes Dafne Keen, James McAvoy, Ruth Wilson and Lin-Manuel Miranda. Deadline

There is another Book to Small Screen to make note of and it is because Netflix is continuing to ride the tails of the recent successes of their teen-centric films:

The Film Features New Collaborations and Original Music from Dolly Parton

Netflix has acquired the film “Dumplin’,” which features collaborations and original music from entertainment industry icon Dolly Parton.

“Dumplin’” is the plus-size, teenage daughter of a former beauty queen, who signs up for her mom’s pageant as a protest that escalates when other contestants follow her footsteps, revolutionizing the pageant and their small Texas town.

Film Release Date: The film will be released later this year on Netflix in the U.S. and select international territories, and in select theaters in the U.S.

With that said, Deadline stated that the co-owners of The Ripped Bodice Bookstore have signed with Sony Pictures TV to develop TV projects based on their close relationship with romance novel authors and readers.

I do think that the  acquisitions of movies based on YA, chick lit, and a slew of other literary genres is incredibly smart. They acquire the rights to books that have a fandom in place and the numbers to prove that they are certifiable hits. It gives us, as moviegoers, a nice break from all the sequels, superhero, horror, and action heavy movies at the theaters.

Besides the whole debacle with Henry Cavill ties with DC, it seems like another comic book based property is also having a scandalous moment. American Gods, Starz, has lost its second show runner. To be fair, the cast and whomever is left is making it their business to keep everything going in hopes of getting the show on the small screen in 2019. Digital Spy

Before I go off on a laughing camel, I forgot to post the latest trailer for Daredevil’s third season.

Ok. That’s it for me.

Have a great day!

P.S. – Wait! My favorite news! Lee Pace (Pushing Daisies) will be in a Hong Kong drama! Variety

However, we did get the best news about our favorite Doctor, Eleven, and that is that Matt Smith has been cast in the last chapter of the Skywalker saga. No details, as of yet, about his character. Is he a rebel or is he part of the First Order? We shall see… Variety

Luckily, this comes as Matt Smith has taken his bow as Prince Philip in The Crown. Who is taking over for him? Outlander‘s Tobias Menzies.

There are some people that are upset that DC’s Legends of Tomorrow will not be participating in the annual crossover event that, until now, has involved all of the Arrowverse shows. Yet, they forget that we will be meeting both Batgirl and Lois Lane. We will also have Superman involved. Loop in the full casts of Arrow, The Flash, and Supergirl and their story line for this crossover event, well…there would be no real air time to devote to our favorite superhero misfits.

Mind you, LoT will have their hands full with Constantine as one of the newest members of the team. So, do not be too sad.

Casting Updates Galore and Updates on Your Favorite Shows…

While fans, cast, and crew of the Big Bang Theory continue to lament the demise of the popular comedy, the rest of the TV-verse moves on…

Casting News:

Connie Britton and Dylan McDermott will be returning to the American Horror Story franchise in its latest installment. THR

We also learned that Sarah Paulson will be playing three characters in the upcoming season:

“Sarah Paulson, who apparently just likes to one-up herself at this point, is taking on triple duty in American Horror Story: Apocalypse. The acclaimed actress will not only be reprising her roles as Murder House‘s Billie Dean and Coven‘s Cordelia, but she’ll also debut a new character, the mysterious Venable.” TVG

The upcoming Apocalypse season will be a cross over between the Coven season and the Murder House season. We did get the following to corroborate that statement:

This should be an interesting series to watch as it involves the end times. God help us all.

But, there seems to be a theme to all of these seasons:

Tyler Hoechlin will return to play the Man of Steele in the upcoming crossover event for the Arrowverse on the CW. We will also get to meet Lois Lane! Syfy

Say it ain’t so, FP! We knew that having Juggie beat up in the end of last season would have ripple effects for this upcoming season and we learn that that is the case.

“The fallout from Jughead’s beatdown from the Ghoulies and the next stage of Hiram Lodge’s (Mark Consuelos) plan to take over Riverdale — which includes some staff changes at Pops — will be a little bit too much for FP to take in the Season 2 finale and he’ll find comfort in his old vices. Ulrich confided in TV Guide that FP’s backslide is an “interesting emotional answer” to the drama consuming the town.” TVG

HBO has given us a little nugget about the upcoming prequel of Game of Thrones:

“Taking place thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series chronicles the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: From the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East, to the Starks of legend… it’s not the story we think we know.”

For more information about the upcoming series, keep an on George R.R. Martin’s blog and on HBO.

If you watched the first season of The Gifted (FOX), like I did, than you probably had a couple of questions about the timeline and where the heroes of the show land in the X-Men universe timeline. In the upcoming second season, we will actually learn about Thunderbird’s connection to the X-Men. Keep an eye out for this in the third episode. TVG

With the upcoming season of Arrow possibly being the hardest on all the main characters, it will be especially hard on our favorite tech nerd, Felicity. She will be dealing with Oliver’s absence, as he is in jail for the first few months of the season. But, she will try to focus on a business, Smoak Tech. TVL

News You May Have Missed…

The biggest news to those that love books to the small screen adaptations is that HBO is adapting Audrey Niffenegger’s novel “The Time Traveler’s Wife” and Doctor Who’s  and Sherlock’s Steven Moffat is at the helm of the project!

The channel that flip-flops the most and still manages to keep a fandom unhappy, NBC  has reversed its cancellation of the beloved Timeless. However, it is not for a new season. Nope! What we are getting is a two-part event that will close out the series during the holidays. It’s something for a fandom (one of many) that was campaigning for the show to be revived at any network.

Here is the official press release from NBC:

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. – July 31, 2018 – Hey Clockblockers, your mission is complete!

NBC and Sony Pictures Television are collaborating on a two-part “Timeless” finale to air during the holidays, giving closure to the globetrotting series that has generated incredible viewer passion.

According to executive producers Shawn Ryan and Eric Kripke, audiences can expect the “Timeless” they know and love. A focus on the unsung and underrepresented people of history. And most importantly, one final emotional story for the Time Team.

“We’re excited to tell one final chapter to this incredible story,” said Lisa Katz, Co-President, Scripted Programming, NBC Entertainment. “A huge thank you to all – our cast, crew, producers and partners at Sony – who have worked so very hard, and to the fans who kept us on our toes and made sure we did our very best week after week.”

“While we wish we could’ve made another dozen seasons of ‘Timeless,’ this is the next best thing,” said Ryan and Kripke. “We’re thrilled to take the Lifeboat out for one last spin and bring closure to our story. The studio, network, cast and crew are all doing this for one reason only: the fans. Because they deserve it. Because the fans made this happen and we thank them for their passion, support and helicopters. So? You guys want to get Rufus back or what?”

The cast includes Abigail Spencer, Matt Lanter, Malcolm Barrett, Goran Višnjić, Paterson Joseph, Sakina Jaffrey and Claudia Doumit.

Shawn Ryan and Eric Kripke are the creators, writers and executive producers. Tom Smuts and Arika Lisanne Mittman are co-showrunners and executive producers. Don Kurt, Greg Beeman, John Davis, John Fox and Marney Hochman also executive produce.

“Timeless” is a production of Sony Pictures Television, Davis Entertainment, MiddKid Productions and Kripke Enterprises.

Casting news: From an orange jumpsuit (Orange is the New Black) to a magical creature on The Magicians, Jolene Purdy will be playing Shoshana, a maenad. She is a bright and highly emotional magical creature tasked with tending to notorious party god Bacchus; she stands as gatekeeper between the deity and an old buddy who desperately seeks him. Deadline

As a reminder, the first season of Marvel’s Runaways will be airing on Freeform, the first episode will air after the season finale of the both critic and favorite Cloak and Dagger.

After seeing the success of Cloak and Dagger, Marvel is hoping to see an uptick in interest for Marvel’s Runways, which originally aired on Hulu. Will this work? Well, both shows got a second season order. But, will they see that they may have to go much more darker to achieve their goal? Have you noticed that the Netflix’ Marvel assets that have been successful are all very dark? The shows that have struggled are lacking the gravitas of characters that are suffering because they have to balance their desire to be what they want to be or want out of life and what humanity needs them to be. These types of  shows are much more human. So, they have to figure out a way to make Runaways much more relatable to their audience.
