Cowboy Bebop and Ronald Dahl at Netflix and the Movies You Should Keep an Eye On…Like Artemis Fowl and Anna and the Apocalypse

It seems like the holidays are going to be very quiet with all the shows shutting down for the holidays and rightly so…as most of us are trying to figure out presents for all our friends and family and planning for the big holiday dinners.

With that said, there are some exciting news movie-wise.

First up, Artemis Fowl:

As I watched, I had the same feeling I got when I saw the first Harry Potter movie teaser.

If you are intrigued, there are a series of books that revolve around Artemis Fowl and they are written by Eoin Colfer. Here is the summary of book 1:

Twelve-year-old criminal mastermind Artemis Fowl has discovered a world below ground of armed and dangerous–and extremely high-tech–fairies. He kidnaps one of them, Holly Short, and holds her for ransom in an effort to restore his family’s fortune. But he may have underestimated the fairies’ powers. Is he about to trigger a cross-species war?

The second bit of movie news that had many excited revolved around the sequel to the animated Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse movie. Sony has Bek Smith working on the script for the sequel that will focus on three generations of Spider-Women, one of which is Spider-Gwen. If you have not seen Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, you are missing out on a fun movie. Deadline

Zoey Deutch has been  cast in the sequel to Zombieland. The original cast has also signed on and the movie will be released in time for Halloween 2019.  Variety

Since it is the holidays, I only thought it fair to show you a trailer to a movie that screams Christmas…

One last thing, if you have a teen (my 16 year old niece texted me this bit of news) that loved the Netflix movie To All the Boys I Loved Before, it is getting a sequel. That reminds me, if you get the book, there are Christmas cookie recipes in the back.

Now, about TV…

Happily, The Walking Dead‘s numbers are up from the week prior. Unfortunately, the fall season finale for season 9 was the lowest of all of the mid-season finales. I would take this as a win for the show, but we shall see how many will keep on watching when the show returns February 10th at 9 pm.

In Memoriam: The saddest news of the week revolves around the passing of the creator of SpongeBob Squarepants. Stephen Hillenburg passed away from ALS on Monday. Hillenburg was an avid artist and a marine biologist, he combined both of his loves and created a beloved character and his friends that lived in a fictional underwater city called Bikini Bottom. The show popped up on Nickelodeon in the late 90s and continues to be a fan favorite. Hillenburg has made many children and those who are still a child at heart smile. In response, Nickelodeon observed a moment of silence. TV Guide

New Shows, Casting News, and The Return of Veronica Mars?

Happy Hump Day!

I started off blogging when True Blood came out, so I have always kept tabs on the cast since the show ended. Alexander Skarsgard (Big Little Lies, True Blood, Generation Kill) is slated to appear in The Little Drummer Girl by John le Carré. This production is a joint venture between the BBC and AMC, similar to the partnership for The Night Manager.

From the Press Release:

NEW YORK, NY – August 21, 2018 – AMC today announced “The Little Drummer Girl,” will premiere in the U.S. as a must-watch, three-night television event with a two-hour episode on November 19 at 9:00 P.M. ET/PT. Additional two-hour episodes will air on consecutive nights at 9:00 P.M. ET/PT on November 20 and November 21.

Based on John le Carré’s best-selling literary masterpiece of the same name, “The Little Drummer Girl” is a six-part miniseries starring Emmy® and Golden Globe®Award-winner Alexander Skarsgård (“Big Little Lies”) as Becker, twice Academy Award-nominated and Tony-nominated Michael Shannon (The Shape of Water, Nocturnal Animals) as Kurtz and BAFTA-nominated Florence Pugh (Lady Macbeth) as Charlie.

Blurring the fine lines between love and hate; truth and fiction; and right and wrong; “The Little Drummer Girl” weaves a suspenseful and explosive story of espionage and high-stakes international intrigue. Set in the late 1970s, the pulsating thriller follows Charlie (Pugh), a fiery actress and idealist whose resolve is tested after she meets the mysterious Becker (Skarsgård,) while on holiday in Greece. It quickly becomes apparent that his intentions are not what they seem, and her encounter with him entangles her in a complex plot devised by the spy mastermind Kurtz (Shannon). Charlie takes on the role of a lifetime as a double agent while remaining uncertain of her own loyalties.

“The Little Drummer Girl,” which hails from the executive producers of the Golden Globe and Emmy Award-winning series “The Night Manager,” marks the television debut of visionary filmmaker Park Chan-wook (Oldboy, The Handmaiden, Stoker) and was filmed at locations including the streets of London and Prague and architectural phenomena such as the Acropolis in Athens and the Temple of Poseidon in Greece’s Attica Peninsula.

Fans of Veronica Mars, I’m one, Rejoice! Hulu, is in talks to revive, not reboot, Veronica Mars. The best part is…Kristen Bell would slip on her gumshoes again. EW

A show to watch is Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan. Even though I prefer the character of John Clark, Jack Ryan is the every man that works at the CIA and is thrust in to impossible scenarios and somehow comes out of it alive. In the premiere, CIA analyst Jack Ryan uncovers a series of suspicious transactions that take him and his boss James Greer out from behind their desks into the field to hunt down… The show will air on Amazon on August 31st!

If you love Rom-Coms, go watch To All the Boys that I’ve Loved Before on Netflix. It takes us back to a time when the story of girl and boy work together to either fend off the advances of one person or to get someone super jealous after they break it off and ultimately realize that the person they should be focusing on is the one that is helping them out. If you are on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, or whatever…than you have seen the posts dedicated to Peter Kavinsky. But, the whole cast did a great job and I hope they make this a trilogy!
