What You Missed…

PennyDreadfulA lot happened in the world of media and all that goes bump into the night!

What made us stop everything was the announcement that Penny Dreadful was returning to Showtime.

The fan favorite that reveled in all of its Gothic horror fun will be getting a sequel of sorts.

They dropped the news on Instagram with the following:

Death isn’t always the finale.
#PennyDreadful: City of Angels, the next chapter of the saga set in 1938 Los Angeles, is coming to #Showtime.

What this mean is that your favorite characters will not be returning.

The show will be rooted in the conflict between characters connected to the deity Santa Muerte and others allied with the devil.

John Logan will return as showrunner, but there is no premiere date for the second chapter of the Penny Dreadful series.

Also from Showtime, Halo the series will be featuring John aka the Master Chief and they are casting for the character. What they are looking for is a leading man with a large build for its upcoming action series based on the popular video games. With all of the hullabaloo of The Witcher, it stands to reason the Showtime may be putting a bit more effort in to this show. This show does not have a premiere date. THR

I am still waiting for someone to make a Splinter Cell movie or show.

For those of you with little ones, the BBC and Netflix will be airing an animated miniseries based on Watership Down. The story follows a group of rabbits as they escape the destruction of their warren and seek a place to establish a new home, encountering perils and temptations along the way. The actors who will voice the popular literary bunnies are Daniel Kaluuya, Rosamund Pike, Taron Egerton, Peter Capaldi, Gemma Chan, Tom Wilkinson, Rory Kinnear, John Boyega, James McAvoy, Nicholas Hoult, Ben Kingsley, Gemma Arterton, Freddie Fox, Anne-Marie Duff, Miles Jupp, Olivia Coleman, Mackenzie Crook, Jason Watkins, Craig Parkinson, Henry Goodman, Lee Ingleby, Charlotte Spencer, and Daniel Rigby, THR

Casting news continues with Virginia Madsen being cast in Swamp Thing, which will air via the DC Streaming Service. Madsen will play Maria Sunderland, who traded in her privileged upbringing for the swamps of Marais when she married local business magnate Avery Sunderland, but Avery’s life-time obsession with the swamp has driven a wedge between him and Maria. Her poised existence is shaken further when the return of Abby Arcane re-awakens a deep grief over the loss of Maria’s daughter, Shawna, drawing her into the dark supernatural mysteries emerging from the swamp. Deadline

Anna Shaffer has been cast to play Triss Merigold in The Witcher series. Triss is a sorcereress who had an unhappy romantic relationship with Geralt of Rivia.  IMDB

We finally got our first image from Game of Thrones:

The final season is just around the corner and while we’ve heard that the final season will turn the show on its head, we know that the showrunners will not disappoint in giving us a jaw dropping season.

In the movies, we learned that Ewan McGregor will be in the Birds of Prey movie. He will portray the infamous crime lord of Gotham, Roman Sionis aka the Black Mask. He is a brutal and ruthless crime lord who has a fixation with masks and derives sadistic pleasure from the act of torture. Syfy

Other movie news:

  • Andy Muschietti and Leonardo DiCaprio’s Appian Way will adapt H.G. Wells’ The Time Machine. Andy Muschietti will direct.
  • Frozen 2 will premiere Nov. 22, 2019.

TGIF!

What You Missed…

A little investigative work on my part and a prayer that this is true…

In the Instagram post for Jensen Ackles, he stated it was a costume that was for Halloween. But, I think it was for something different. Arrowverse’s Elseworlds crossover event.

Unfortunately, the Arrowverse is losing a beloved member, but not forever. Jesse L.Martin, who plays Papa Joe on The Flash, will be taking a leave of absence due to a back injury he suffered over the summer. Have you noticed that he has been sitting in all of his scenes. As someone whose back went out due to grabbing luggage from an overhead compartment…get well soon! TVGuide

And we’re off on a Game of Thrones Prequel info race. Yesterday, we learned that Naomi Watts was cast in the show. Today, we learned the title of the prequel show and that is The Long Night. The Long Night was referenced in Game of Thrones by Melisandre as it is an era where darkness fell across the world for a generation. We also learned that Josh Whitehouse has been cast in a lead role in the show, character name not available. Deadline

Terry Pratchett’s The Watch will be adapted for TV by BBC America. There are 8 watch books in the Discworld series. In the first book, we meet The Watch. The Watch is generally regarded as a bunch of incompetents, until Carrot arrives. While the existing officers are either cynical, incompetent, mildly crooked or all three, Carrot is honest, straightforward and idealistic. Additionally, he is 6’6″ tall and enormously strong. Carrot has an absolute dedication and conscientiousness that unnerve his colleagues. Carrot’s enthusiasm strikes a chord Many of Pratchett’s literary characters will also make an appearance including the City Watch Captain Sam Vimes, the last scion of nobility Lady Sybil Ramkin, the naïve but heroic Carrot, the mysterious Angua and the ingenious non-binary forensics expert Cheery alongside Pratchett’s original characterization of Death. On to some fun news, Henry Cavill decided to give his fans a head’s up about what he will look like as Geralt aka The Witcher.

What You Missed…

It is finally feeling like Fall in New York City and after a week of recovering from Summer 2018, I am back and I just realized that a lot happened while I was away.

  1. The news that made almost all the ladies I know go a little bonkers in that Henry Cavill will be in a new series on Netflix. He will be portraying Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher. This is a character made popular by a book series and a video game series. Now, while Mr. Cavill announced this bit of casting news on his social media accounts, we learned of Ciri’s casting today via Forbes magazine. They stated that the show is looking for an ethnic girl who is between the ages of 15-16 to portray the character that is known as a caucasian slavic looking female. In all honesty, if they are worried about checking off boxes versus finding the right actress that can actually act…there will be an issue with fans of the series and people who like quality shows. My husband is going off on this topic as I type. He’s a gamer. The show will air in 2019.
  2. DC is in full casting mode for it’s streaming service’s new shows. The latest casting news had me in a tizzy because I loved this actor in Hot Fuzz and in Penny Dreadful. Timothy Dalton, will portray Dr. Niles Caulder or Chief of the Doom Patrol.  Chief uses his intellect to create inventions, but to also help fight crime. Syfy
  3. DC has also cast the character of Abby Arcane in the Swamp Thing and she is a familiar face for those of you who love shows that focus on all things that go bump in the night. Crystal Reed of Teen Wolf  will be portraying the love interest to the Swamp Thing.  Maria Sten has been cast as Liz Tremayne, a reporter/bartender and childhood friend to Abby. Deadline

  4. Stranger Things 3 is looking for kids who can play marching band instruments for Season 3. Mental Floss
  5. With news that Veronica Mars may make a return, it made sense that character-driven shows of the same ilk would populate the small screens. So, it was no surprise that a Nancy Drew show would be in the works and it will be at the CW. Deadline There was also news that Party of Five would be rebooted for FreeForm. Disney is also making a High School the Musical series. Honestly, I am not a fan of reboots. However, I am glad that networks are trying to cater to a younger audience.
  6. The Creative Emmy Awards were held and here are some winners of note:Best TV Movie – “USS Callister (Black Mirror)”

    Governor’s Award – “Star Trek”

  7. Iron Fist’s second season started and I am taking my time with this one as the first season was not what I expected, in a very bad way. So, you will see me tweeting about it.
  8. New York Comic-Con is just around the corner and we have learned that a lot of the shows you love will be there.  Shows like Riverdale, Daredevil, Jason Momoa, wait…Jason Momoa is a person. The complete list of guests is listed here. Guess what? I will be going there to check it out. Keep an eye on the twitter feed and this site for news and pics and anything that piques my interest.

HAVE A GREAT WEEK!
