News You May Have Missed…

The biggest news to those that love books to the small screen adaptations is that HBO is adapting Audrey Niffenegger’s novel “The Time Traveler’s Wife” and Doctor Who’s  and Sherlock’s Steven Moffat is at the helm of the project!

The channel that flip-flops the most and still manages to keep a fandom unhappy, NBC  has reversed its cancellation of the beloved Timeless. However, it is not for a new season. Nope! What we are getting is a two-part event that will close out the series during the holidays. It’s something for a fandom (one of many) that was campaigning for the show to be revived at any network.

Here is the official press release from NBC:

UNIVERSAL CITY, Calif. – July 31, 2018 – Hey Clockblockers, your mission is complete!

NBC and Sony Pictures Television are collaborating on a two-part “Timeless” finale to air during the holidays, giving closure to the globetrotting series that has generated incredible viewer passion.

According to executive producers Shawn Ryan and Eric Kripke, audiences can expect the “Timeless” they know and love. A focus on the unsung and underrepresented people of history. And most importantly, one final emotional story for the Time Team.

“We’re excited to tell one final chapter to this incredible story,” said Lisa Katz, Co-President, Scripted Programming, NBC Entertainment. “A huge thank you to all – our cast, crew, producers and partners at Sony – who have worked so very hard, and to the fans who kept us on our toes and made sure we did our very best week after week.”

“While we wish we could’ve made another dozen seasons of ‘Timeless,’ this is the next best thing,” said Ryan and Kripke. “We’re thrilled to take the Lifeboat out for one last spin and bring closure to our story. The studio, network, cast and crew are all doing this for one reason only: the fans. Because they deserve it. Because the fans made this happen and we thank them for their passion, support and helicopters. So? You guys want to get Rufus back or what?”

The cast includes Abigail Spencer, Matt Lanter, Malcolm Barrett, Goran Višnjić, Paterson Joseph, Sakina Jaffrey and Claudia Doumit.

Shawn Ryan and Eric Kripke are the creators, writers and executive producers. Tom Smuts and Arika Lisanne Mittman are co-showrunners and executive producers. Don Kurt, Greg Beeman, John Davis, John Fox and Marney Hochman also executive produce.

“Timeless” is a production of Sony Pictures Television, Davis Entertainment, MiddKid Productions and Kripke Enterprises.

As a reminder, the first season of Marvel’s Runaways will be airing on Freeform, the first episode will air after the season finale of the both critic and favorite Cloak and Dagger.

After seeing the success of Cloak and Dagger, Marvel is hoping to see an uptick in interest for Marvel’s Runways, which originally aired on Hulu. Will this work? Well, both shows got a second season order. But, will they see that they may have to go much more darker to achieve their goal? Have you noticed that the Netflix’ Marvel assets that have been successful are all very dark? The shows that have struggled are lacking the gravitas of characters that are suffering because they have to balance their desire to be what they want to be or want out of life and what humanity needs them to be. These types of  shows are much more human. So, they have to figure out a way to make Runaways much more relatable to their audience.
