What You Missed…

There were a couple of interesting bits of casting news, a first look, and I have a question.

First, we got to see that awkward moment when you meet your replacement:

Titans stars Brenton Thwaites, Teagan Croft, Anna Diop, Ryan Potter, Alan Ritchson, Minka Kelly, Bruno Bichir, Lindsey Gort, and Seamus Dever and starts October 12th. IGN

Did you see the cute promo for the CW’s new Sunday night programming that features the ladies of Charmed and Supergirl?

The CW ‘s Arrowverse annual crossover event has it’s Lois Lane. If you were a fan of Grimm, than you will be excited to know that Elizabeth Tulloch has been cast as the sassy reporter that captures Clark Kent’s heart. The crossover will span over three consecutive nights and Tyler Hoechlin (Clark Kent/Superman) is slated to be in all three episodes. Deadline

One superhero show that is not part of the Arrowverse has a new cast member. Black Lightning has cast Sofia Vassilieva as the Looker.  THR Here is a little intel on the character. The Looker is Emily Briggs, who was a mousy bank teller who lived a quiet life with her husband. Until she was kidnapped by people from the underground civilization known as Abyssia. A group of heroes named The Outsiders rescue her and during the battle in Abyssia, we learn of Emily’s heritage and eventually she has a meta-human moment and turns into a beauty with powers.

Breaking Bad‘s Aaron Paul has joined HBO’s Westworld, no details of who the character is and what his role is in the upcoming third season. EW

The cast for the upcoming NOS4A2 is rounding itself out with the casting of Zachary Quinto and Ashleigh Cummings. This show, based on a book series of the same name by Joe Hill, will air on AMC. Variety

We got our first look of Joaquin Phoenix’ The Joker, thanks to filmmaker Todd Phillips.

FirstlookTheJoker

There has been a lot of talk of Jon Hamm becoming Batman. That would be interesting to see. What do you think about that?

Have you watched The First on Hulu? This little show that features Sean Penn who leads an ensemble cast in this near-future drama about a crew of astronauts attempting to become the first humans on Mars. Under the direction of visionary aerospace magnate Laz Ingram (Natascha McElhone), the crew contends with peril and personal sacrifice as they undertake the greatest pioneering feat in human history.

I watched all of the episodes and it was a little hard in the beginning, but once you get over the hump of the first two episodes…you will fall in love with the characters of the show. Especially, Anna Jacoby-Heron, who plays Denise Hagerty. She is Tom’s (Sean Penn) daughter and she is still in conflict over the loss of her mother and her father’s desire to return to space. We see her whole life. We see the moment that breaks her. We see the moment where she makes the hardest decision for her father’s sake and then there is a scene towards the end, in a staircase, and it brought me to tears.

I suggest you give this little show a shot.

One last thing. Today is the day! The Emmy Awards will air tonight and if you are a fan of the small screen, you have already started praying for the shows that you love.

The categories that are piquing my interest are:

Best Drama Series…this is a tough one to call and then they tossed in The Handmaid’s TaleThis is Us and The Crown. So, maybe next year for Game of Thrones.

Best Limited Series…oh TV gods, please let The Alienist win!

If you do not have a ballot to follow along, Vanity Fair has a printable ballot. Print it out and make your predictions. I hope your shows win.

What You Missed…

It is finally feeling like Fall in New York City and after a week of recovering from Summer 2018, I am back and I just realized that a lot happened while I was away.

  1. The news that made almost all the ladies I know go a little bonkers in that Henry Cavill will be in a new series on Netflix. He will be portraying Geralt of Rivia in The Witcher. This is a character made popular by a book series and a video game series. Now, while Mr. Cavill announced this bit of casting news on his social media accounts, we learned of Ciri’s casting today via Forbes magazine. They stated that the show is looking for an ethnic girl who is between the ages of 15-16 to portray the character that is known as a caucasian slavic looking female. In all honesty, if they are worried about checking off boxes versus finding the right actress that can actually act…there will be an issue with fans of the series and people who like quality shows. My husband is going off on this topic as I type. He’s a gamer. The show will air in 2019.
  2. DC is in full casting mode for it’s streaming service’s new shows. The latest casting news had me in a tizzy because I loved this actor in Hot Fuzz and in Penny Dreadful. Timothy Dalton, will portray Dr. Niles Caulder or Chief of the Doom Patrol.  Chief uses his intellect to create inventions, but to also help fight crime. Syfy
  3. DC has also cast the character of Abby Arcane in the Swamp Thing and she is a familiar face for those of you who love shows that focus on all things that go bump in the night. Crystal Reed of Teen Wolf  will be portraying the love interest to the Swamp Thing.  Maria Sten has been cast as Liz Tremayne, a reporter/bartender and childhood friend to Abby. Deadline

  4. Stranger Things 3 is looking for kids who can play marching band instruments for Season 3. Mental Floss
  5. With news that Veronica Mars may make a return, it made sense that character-driven shows of the same ilk would populate the small screens. So, it was no surprise that a Nancy Drew show would be in the works and it will be at the CW. Deadline There was also news that Party of Five would be rebooted for FreeForm. Disney is also making a High School the Musical series. Honestly, I am not a fan of reboots. However, I am glad that networks are trying to cater to a younger audience.

    Governor’s Award – “Star Trek”

  7. Iron Fist’s second season started and I am taking my time with this one as the first season was not what I expected, in a very bad way. So, you will see me tweeting about it.
  8. New York Comic-Con is just around the corner and we have learned that a lot of the shows you love will be there.  Shows like Riverdale, Daredevil, Jason Momoa, wait…Jason Momoa is a person. The complete list of guests is listed here. Guess what? I will be going there to check it out. Keep an eye on the twitter feed and this site for news and pics and anything that piques my interest.

HAVE A GREAT WEEK!
