What You Missed…

In Memoriam: Stan Lee was a man who believed that if you were able to entertain people, than you were doing a good thing. He excelled at entertaining. He helped make comic books fun, with characters like Spider-Man. He helped evolve the comic book industry and helped evolve the entertainment industry overall. His smiling countenance and New York accent will be missed every time we see a new Marvel movie.

Excelsior! Stan Lee Excelsior! You will be dearly missed.

Syfy Wire listed Stan Lee’s 10 greatest creations.

Deadline created a montage of all of Stan Lee’s cameos.

On a brighter note, we learned that we will be getting a Christmas episode of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, which is on Netflix.

The Library of the Dead will be adapted for TV. Read the following synopsis for the first book in the series by Glenn Cooper. Assigned to the high-profile “Doomsday” serial killer case, FBI agent Will Piper is hitting dead-end after dead end. The victims seem to have nothing in common: age, background, or even the way they die. All that connects them is a postcard each received in the mail announcing his or her date of death—all sent from Las Vegas, where a brilliant computer scientist leads a double life. Just when agent Piper finds a credible lead, he’s removed from the case. Continuing the investigation on his own, he must outwit a ruthless team of covert operatives from Area 51 protecting the government’s greatest secret. From a medieval monastery to a cutting-edge government laboratory, Library of the Dead delivers a richly detailed, thought-provoking exploration of fate, predestination, and the choices we make in life. I never gush over kids movies, but the following trailer made me want to get a Pikachu:

What You Missed…

Barring Iron Fist, the Marvel shows on Netflix have proven to be fan favorites. So, it came as a surprise to everyone when Netflix cancelled Luke Cage.

In a joint formal statement by Netflix and Marvel:

“Unfortunately, Marvel’s Luke Cage will not return for a third season. Everyone at Marvel Television and Netflix is grateful to the dedicated showrunner, writers, cast and crew who brought Harlem’s Hero to life for the past two seasons, and to all the fans who have supported the series.”

Since the end of the second season, the showrunner, writers, and actors assumed there would be a third season and scripts were created for that additional season. However, since September, issues arose as the third season was reduced to 10 episodes and tensions arose over the new scripts. Variety

There are two reasons that this may have happened:

  1. They could be developing a series called Heroes for Hire, which is a comic book series that focused on Luke Cage and Iron Fist. GeekTyrant
  2. This could all come down to the fact that Marvel/Disney are formulating their plans to create their own streaming service. By slowly picking off the Marvel properties, Netflix is severing ties with the media giant and future rival.

Now, if Netflix is not developing a Heroes for Hire show, then the question is if another tv/cable channel or a streaming service will snap up the popular show or could the character of Luke Cage pop up in another Marvel property?

Matthew_(Tawni_Bannister)_Color20181019-9865-1ev46yuNetflix is currently casting for its High School apocalypse, Daybreak. Matthew Broderick has joined the cast and will be portraying Principal Burr. The cheerful, upbeat principal of Glendale High, Burr knows the name of every kid in school and their favorite character to play in Overwatch. In a hashtag-filled world of #metoo and #blacklivesmatter and #timesup, Burr is genuinely trying to be part of the solution: a good guy, an advocate and ally for all. But let’s face it, kids can be monsters.

The show is based on the graphic novel by Brian Ralph, the subversive dark comedy Daybreakfinds 17 year old high school outcast Josh searching for his missing girlfriend Sam in post-apocalyptic Glendale, California. Joined by a ragtag group of misfits including a pyromaniac 12 year old Angelica and Josh’s former high school bully Wesley, now turned pacifist samurai, Josh tries to stay alive amongst the horde of Mad Max-style gangs (evil jocks, cheerleaders turned Amazon warriors), zombie-like creatures called Ghoulies, and everything else this brave new world throws at him.

The show will have 10 episodes.

Casting news continues with Netflix’ Lucifer adding Vinessa Vidotto to portray the Angel, Remiel. Remiel is an angel that feels under-appreciated or overshadowed while struggling to match fellow Angel, Amenadiel’s towering standards. Deadline

The CW’s Supergirl continues to add to its cast. Azie Tesfai will be portraying, Kelly, the younger sister to James Olsen. Kelly is an intelligent and insightful woman who spent time in the military in order to pay for medical school. She’s recently discharged from the military and is currently finishing her training as a psychiatrist. She’s got a large heart and cares deeply about others. Deadline

Epix’ Penneyworth has cast its villain. Paloma Faith has been cast to play Bet Sykes, a cruel adversary who will test the courage of young Alfred Pennyworth and his new boss, Thomas Wayne, the future father of Bruce Wayne. DS

What You Missed…

There were a couple of interesting bits of casting news, a first look, and I have a question.

First, we got to see that awkward moment when you meet your replacement:

Titans stars Brenton Thwaites, Teagan Croft, Anna Diop, Ryan Potter, Alan Ritchson, Minka Kelly, Bruno Bichir, Lindsey Gort, and Seamus Dever and starts October 12th. IGN

Did you see the cute promo for the CW’s new Sunday night programming that features the ladies of Charmed and Supergirl?

The CW ‘s Arrowverse annual crossover event has it’s Lois Lane. If you were a fan of Grimm, than you will be excited to know that Elizabeth Tulloch has been cast as the sassy reporter that captures Clark Kent’s heart. The crossover will span over three consecutive nights and Tyler Hoechlin (Clark Kent/Superman) is slated to be in all three episodes. Deadline

One superhero show that is not part of the Arrowverse has a new cast member. Black Lightning has cast Sofia Vassilieva as the Looker.  THR Here is a little intel on the character. The Looker is Emily Briggs, who was a mousy bank teller who lived a quiet life with her husband. Until she was kidnapped by people from the underground civilization known as Abyssia. A group of heroes named The Outsiders rescue her and during the battle in Abyssia, we learn of Emily’s heritage and eventually she has a meta-human moment and turns into a beauty with powers.

Breaking Bad‘s Aaron Paul has joined HBO’s Westworld, no details of who the character is and what his role is in the upcoming third season. EW

The cast for the upcoming NOS4A2 is rounding itself out with the casting of Zachary Quinto and Ashleigh Cummings. This show, based on a book series of the same name by Joe Hill, will air on AMC. Variety

We got our first look of Joaquin Phoenix’ The Joker, thanks to filmmaker Todd Phillips.

FirstlookTheJoker

There has been a lot of talk of Jon Hamm becoming Batman. That would be interesting to see. What do you think about that?

Have you watched The First on Hulu? This little show that features Sean Penn who leads an ensemble cast in this near-future drama about a crew of astronauts attempting to become the first humans on Mars. Under the direction of visionary aerospace magnate Laz Ingram (Natascha McElhone), the crew contends with peril and personal sacrifice as they undertake the greatest pioneering feat in human history.

I watched all of the episodes and it was a little hard in the beginning, but once you get over the hump of the first two episodes…you will fall in love with the characters of the show. Especially, Anna Jacoby-Heron, who plays Denise Hagerty. She is Tom’s (Sean Penn) daughter and she is still in conflict over the loss of her mother and her father’s desire to return to space. We see her whole life. We see the moment that breaks her. We see the moment where she makes the hardest decision for her father’s sake and then there is a scene towards the end, in a staircase, and it brought me to tears.

I suggest you give this little show a shot.

One last thing. Today is the day! The Emmy Awards will air tonight and if you are a fan of the small screen, you have already started praying for the shows that you love.

The categories that are piquing my interest are:

Best Drama Series…this is a tough one to call and then they tossed in The Handmaid’s TaleThis is Us and The Crown. So, maybe next year for Game of Thrones.

Best Limited Series…oh TV gods, please let The Alienist win!

If you do not have a ballot to follow along, Vanity Fair has a printable ballot. Print it out and make your predictions. I hope your shows win.

The Doctor is Going to a Galaxy Far, Far Away and More…

Quiet day, news-wise.

However, we did get the best news about our favorite Doctor, Eleven, and that is that Matt Smith has been cast in the last chapter of the Skywalker saga. No details, as of yet, about his character. Is he a rebel or is he part of the First Order? We shall see… Variety

Luckily, this comes as Matt Smith has taken his bow as Prince Philip in The Crown. Who is taking over for him? Outlander‘s Tobias Menzies.

EW has been posting some pics of upcoming shows. The latest batch is from The Vampire Diaries spin-off, Legacies. Click on the image to see more. EW.png

There are some people that are upset that DC’s Legends of Tomorrow will not be participating in the annual crossover event that, until now, has involved all of the Arrowverse shows. Yet, they forget that we will be meeting both Batgirl and Lois Lane. We will also have Superman involved. Loop in the full casts of Arrow, The Flash, and Supergirl and their story line for this crossover event, well…there would be no real air time to devote to our favorite superhero misfits.

Mind you, LoT will have their hands full with Constantine as one of the newest members of the team. So, do not be too sad.

Casting Updates Galore and Updates on Your Favorite Shows…

While fans, cast, and crew of the Big Bang Theory continue to lament the demise of the popular comedy, the rest of the TV-verse moves on…

Casting News:

Connie Britton and Dylan McDermott will be returning to the American Horror Story franchise in its latest installment. THR

We also learned that Sarah Paulson will be playing three characters in the upcoming season:

“Sarah Paulson, who apparently just likes to one-up herself at this point, is taking on triple duty in American Horror Story: Apocalypse. The acclaimed actress will not only be reprising her roles as Murder House‘s Billie Dean and Coven‘s Cordelia, but she’ll also debut a new character, the mysterious Venable.” TVG

The upcoming Apocalypse season will be a cross over between the Coven season and the Murder House season. We did get the following to corroborate that statement:

apoc

This should be an interesting series to watch as it involves the end times. God help us all.

But, there seems to be a theme to all of these seasons:

News about your faves:

Tyler Hoechlin will return to play the Man of Steele in the upcoming crossover event for the Arrowverse on the CW. We will also get to meet Lois Lane! Syfy

Say it ain’t so, FP! We knew that having Juggie beat up in the end of last season would have ripple effects for this upcoming season and we learn that that is the case.

“The fallout from Jughead’s beatdown from the Ghoulies and the next stage of Hiram Lodge’s (Mark Consuelos) plan to take over Riverdale — which includes some staff changes at Pops — will be a little bit too much for FP to take in the Season 2 finale and he’ll find comfort in his old vices. Ulrich confided in TV Guide that FP’s backslide is an “interesting emotional answer” to the drama consuming the town.” TVG

Here is the upcoming trailer for The Man in the High Castle:

New Shows:

Apple has given Isaac Asimov’s Foundation a 10-episode straight-to-series order. Variety

HBO has given us a little nugget about the upcoming prequel of Game of Thrones:

“Taking place thousands of years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series chronicles the world’s descent from the golden Age of Heroes into its darkest hour. And only one thing is for sure: From the horrifying secrets of Westeros’ history to the true origin of the white walkers, the mysteries of the East, to the Starks of legend… it’s not the story we think we know.”

For more information about the upcoming series, keep an on George R.R. Martin’s blog and on HBO.

If you watched the first season of The Gifted (FOX), like I did, than you probably had a couple of questions about the timeline and where the heroes of the show land in the X-Men universe timeline. In the upcoming second season, we will actually learn about Thunderbird’s connection to the X-Men. Keep an eye out for this in the third episode. TVG

With the upcoming season of Arrow possibly being the hardest on all the main characters, it will be especially hard on our favorite tech nerd, Felicity. She will be dealing with Oliver’s absence, as he is in jail for the first few months of the season. But, she will try to focus on a business, Smoak Tech. TVL

Questions:

  1. Will you be watching The Innocents on Netflix?
  2. Are you watching Meteor Garden on Netflix?
  3. Are you sick of all the reboots?
  4. What are you looking forward to this upcoming TV season?
  5. What are you looking forward to in Movies as we head in to the Fall/Winter movie season?

New Shows, Casting News, and The Return of Veronica Mars?

Happy Hump Day!

I started off blogging when True Blood came out, so I have always kept tabs on the cast since the show ended. Alexander Skarsgard (Big Little Lies, True Blood, Generation Kill) is slated to appear in The Little Drummer Girl by John le Carré. This production is a joint venture between the BBC and AMC, similar to the partnership for The Night Manager.

From the Press Release:

NEW YORK, NY – August 21, 2018 – AMC today announced “The Little Drummer Girl,” will premiere in the U.S. as a must-watch, three-night television event with a two-hour episode on November 19 at 9:00 P.M. ET/PT. Additional two-hour episodes will air on consecutive nights at 9:00 P.M. ET/PT on November 20 and November 21.

Based on John le Carré’s best-selling literary masterpiece of the same name, “The Little Drummer Girl” is a six-part miniseries starring Emmy® and Golden Globe®Award-winner Alexander Skarsgård (“Big Little Lies”) as Becker, twice Academy Award-nominated and Tony-nominated Michael Shannon (The Shape of Water, Nocturnal Animals) as Kurtz and BAFTA-nominated Florence Pugh (Lady Macbeth) as Charlie.

Blurring the fine lines between love and hate; truth and fiction; and right and wrong; “The Little Drummer Girl” weaves a suspenseful and explosive story of espionage and high-stakes international intrigue. Set in the late 1970s, the pulsating thriller follows Charlie (Pugh), a fiery actress and idealist whose resolve is tested after she meets the mysterious Becker (Skarsgård,) while on holiday in Greece. It quickly becomes apparent that his intentions are not what they seem, and her encounter with him entangles her in a complex plot devised by the spy mastermind Kurtz (Shannon). Charlie takes on the role of a lifetime as a double agent while remaining uncertain of her own loyalties.

“The Little Drummer Girl,” which hails from the executive producers of the Golden Globe and Emmy Award-winning series “The Night Manager,” marks the television debut of visionary filmmaker Park Chan-wook (Oldboy, The Handmaiden, Stoker) and was filmed at locations including the streets of London and Prague and architectural phenomena such as the Acropolis in Athens and the Temple of Poseidon in Greece’s Attica Peninsula.

Fans of Veronica Mars, I’m one, Rejoice! Hulu, is in talks to revive, not reboot, Veronica Mars. The best part is…Kristen Bell would slip on her gumshoes again. EW

Casting News:

  1. Anthony Michael Hall has been cast the Principal of Riverdale High when the Foursome’s parents were students:Riverdale
  2. Karen David (Once Upon a Time, Galavant, Timeless) has been cast to play Emma Tig on the CW’s Legacies. Emma is a beautiful witch-turned-guidance counselor, she is the moral support and shoulder to cry on for all the students at the Salvatore School, even if the person who needs her therapy the most (the headmaster) remains an elusive patient. Deadline
  3. iZombie has lured Kareen Abdul-Jabar to play Zed, one of the two City Council members who didn’t flee after the zombie endemic broke out in Seattle. And while Zed is a zombie, his fellow council member is human — the two are unable to compromise or understand each other’s perspectives that city hall basically is rendered inert. TVGuide
  4.  Inbar Lavi has been cast as “The Original Sinner” Eve on Lucifer. Her backstory is that, “After an eternity with Adam, she’s grown restless in her marriage and longs for a less predictable time when things were exciting. Naughty. Dangerous. She misses her hot and heavy first love…the charming rogue who tempted her so many years ago. That’s right, the devil himself…Lucifer.” TVLine
  5. Brendan Fraser, The Mummy, has been cast as Robotman/Cliff Steele, in the DCU’s live-action series Doom Patrol.  Deadline

Shows Ordered to Series, Renewed, or Cancelled:

  1. We now know when The CW will air their annual crossover for their Arrow-verse:crossover
  2. Netflix has renewed The End of the F*!king World for a second season and Anne with an E for a third season. Both great shows.
  3. Not only will we get Batman on Gotham, but we may get Bane. Comicbook.com
  4. Watchmen has been ordered by HBO. The graphic novel by Alan Moore, artist Dave Gibbons, and colorist John Higgins, revolved around a superhero team as they seem to decay alongside the ever-darkening America around them. The team consists of Rorschach, Nite Owl, the Silk Spectre, Dr. Manhattan and Ozymandias and we see them reunite in order to investigate who’s behind a teammate’s murder, but what they find out may be even more grim than the world they seek to protect. The cast includes: Regina King, Jeremy Irons, Don Johnson, Tim Blake Nelson, Louis Gossett Jr., Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Adelaide Clemens, Andrew Howard, Tom Mison, Frances Fisher, Jacob Ming-Trent, Sara Vickers, Dylan Schombing, Lily Rose Smith, and Adelynn Spoon. The show will air in 2019 and is produced and written by Damon Lindelof.

Odds and Ends:

When Stranger Things returns, it will be inspired by Fletch! Variety

A show to watch is Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan. Even though I prefer the character of John Clark, Jack Ryan is the every man that works at the CIA and is thrust in to impossible scenarios and somehow comes out of it alive. In the premiere, CIA analyst Jack Ryan uncovers a series of suspicious transactions that take him and his boss James Greer out from behind their desks into the field to hunt down… The show will air on Amazon on August 31st!

If you love Rom-Coms, go watch To All the Boys that I’ve Loved Before on Netflix. It takes us back to a time when the story of girl and boy work together to either fend off the advances of one person or to get someone super jealous after they break it off and ultimately realize that the person they should be focusing on is the one that is helping them out. If you are on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, or whatever…than you have seen the posts dedicated to Peter Kavinsky. But, the whole cast did a great job and I hope they make this a trilogy!
