Recap: The Flash – Nora

So, in the season opener, we met Nora West-allen…the daughter of Barry and Iris…who is from the future and seeing her impact on Team Flash is both adorable and heartbreaking.

While Iris is in awe and elated at the opportunity to meet her daughter, Barry is at first hesitant,  a little wary, and a bit overwhelmed. Why, he wanted life to allow him to have the normalcy of being a parent go chronologically the right way…and the appearance of Nora is not letting that happen. The little talk between Iris and Barry is the reason I think that they are the best couple in the Arrowverse. As they are supportive of one another and hopeful about their future together, as all newlyweds that have gone through hell and back are.

But, Nora is a chip off of her Parent’s block. That wonderment that Barry had in year one is there, but it is more wonderment of meeting her father. But, like any kid, she causes more harm than good. We learn that Nora needs to get back to her timeline, but she can’t…and Wally gives the bad news that Nora has negative tachyons.

What was heartbreaking is to see that Iris and Nora do not really connect, but she is definitely Daddy’s little girl. And that is because we learn that the reason she is so attached to Barry is that in the future, Barry…disappears. She lied about not being able to go back, but she wanted to meet her Dad. How can you fault her for that. But, Barry is heartbroken that he misses all of her firsts.

There is a Meta in the episode, Gridlock, but he really did not matter. Well, except for allowing the group to figure out a way to get their groove back. Especially after all that they lost after Devoe. We also saw Barry channel Harry as he taught his daughter to phase a plane until it safely landed in the river. She he had a “first” with his daughter and it was sweet. This moment also makes Barry change his mind and then allows Nora to stick around…which will help her figure out a way of stopping her Dad from disappearing in the future. Another nice moment was when we see Nora give Barry the Ryan Choi’s suit, since apparently he no longer fits any of his old suits.

The best part of the episode is Ralph, who is the nice comedic break the episode needed and who gives Caitlin the info she needs. Also, Joe needing an escape from Cecilia and her power…and the baby. Very cute.

We did say goodbye to one character, Kid Flash goes off into the sunset with his Father’s blessing. Will this be the last time we see Wally? I hope not, as he has grown as a character and he has become an integral part of this universe.

Throughout the episode, we got hints of what’s to come in the season. Nora mentioned Grodd and King Shark, we learned (via Ralph) that Caitlin’s Dad is actually not dead, and in the last minute or so of the episode, we met the big bad of Season 5. He’s a Meta killer with the Flash lightning bolt as his weapon of choice. Dun, dun…..duuuuun.

Overall, a great opener that will hopefully be mirrored throughout the rest of the season.

Next week: Blocked – Barry and Team Flash track down a meta that is stealing high-tech weapons, only to cross paths with a new foe named Cicada, who is hunting the very same meta, with nefarious intent.

What You May Have Missed at #NYCC

A lot happened since I last posted, but I did go to NYCC and I grabbed some intel as well as the videos that popped up over the 4 1/2 days of New York City’s biggest and geekiest annual event.

Good Omens:

The End is Nigh! This was the panel I was really looking forward to at NYCC. This show is based on the popular book by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. In the book:

The world will end on Saturday. Next Saturday, to be exact. Just before dinner, according to The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch, the world’s only completely accurate book of prophecies written in 1655. The armies of Good and Evil are amassing and everything appears to be going according to Divine Plan. Except that a somewhat fussy angel and a fast-living demon are not actually looking forward to coming rapture. And someone seems to have misplaced the Antichrist.

In the panel we learned that we will be hearing a lot of music from Queen. In the book there is a recurring joke that all the music tapes in Crowley’s car are songs from Queen’s greatest music tape. The reason for this is that that the authors, they realized that whenever they were in a car…there was always a greatest music tape in the car. That carried over to the show.

David Tennant’s Crowley the Demon and Michael Sheen’s Aziraphale the Angel, deny that they are close friends, but they have crosses paths over the course of 6000 years and now find themselves clinging to one another in the midst of trying to 1. Find the antichrist, 2. stop the world from ending, and 3. avoid the annoying Gabriel (Played by John Hamm) and his thuggish angel sidekick. Miranda Richardson plays Madame Tracey who can channel Aziraphale. What was evident is that there love amongst the creators and cast. They explained the lunacy of filming this six episode limited series. They would spend a couple of hours filming a scene showing the main characters in Elizabethan times in full Elizabethan outfits at the Globe at the premiere of Hamlet and then a couple of hours later they were somewhere new to film another scene. So, filming this whole universe was a huge undertaking. They even managed to film some of the key footnotes.

With all the clips we saw in the NYCC panel, I think we basically saw an overview of the first season. The most interesting bits evolved around Matt and Sister Maggie. Maggie is a tough, no nonsense nun that ends up being the tether that Matt needs to come back from the brink giving up on everything. Karen and Foggy are back and they too give Matt that support he needs in order to stop Fisk (whose goal is to save his girl from suffering his fate in jail) and..Bullseye. Let me tell you, watching the fight scenes between Matt and Dex aka Bullseye was painful. The Spanish came out of me as Matt was pummeled by inanimate objects. A lot of “Aye dios mio” going on. This will be a great season to watch.

Star Trek: Discovery:

We got to see the whole cast at NYCC and Sonequa was in full effect as she squealed and touted the greatness of Ethan Peck as our new and bearded Spock. We learned that at the core of the season is the mystery of the Red Angel and these seven signals that the crew, headed by Pike (who uses his crew to help figure stuff out), go after. We will also see L’Rell become much more feminine which is evident in her growing out her hair, new attire, and her relationship with Tyler. Then these is Saru. We will meet his sister and see his home planet as we see his character evolve. All in all, all these characters are confronting challenges and we watch them overcome them.

My favorite part revolved around Tilly and Stamitz, Anthony Rapp’s character tells Tilly that she is incandescent because everything she does comes from love. Also, Michelle Yeoh loves playing the sexy Mirror Universe version of Giorgio who works for Section 31. You could tell she was having a good time playing this character that is in the black ops of the Federation and also playing the person that everyone believes is the nice captain Giorgio that everyone thinks she is.

There was casting news at the event, Sonequa’s husband will be on the show.

Gotham – First Look at the final Season:

Yes, Shane West is Bane. But, the best of news from the panel is that in the finale we will jump ahead a decade and we will see Batman. No air date still…who knows what is going on over at FOX.

Deadly Class:

The show will air on January 16th at 10 pm est on Syfy.

DC’s Titans:

This is not your Saturday morning type of show, it is much darker. We shall see the evolution of Robin to Nightwing and the costumes will evolve from street wear to the classic costumes that fans love. Ahead of the show’s premiere on October 12th, the show was picked up for a second season.

Just so you know, this is a timeline of what’s to come for the DC Streaming Service:

  • Titans
  • Young Justice
  • Doom Patrol
  • Swamp Thing
  • Stargirl
  • Harley Quinn
  • We also learned that Krypton will be on the service at the tail end of 2019. Interesting…

The Magicians First Look at Season 4:

The Magicians – We know that at the end of the last season, that the characters (who have new identities) will be dealing with a monster that has jumped into the body of Eliot and we will see what havoc that monster creates for the Magicians and others. Also, the cast will participate in a Facebook Live interaction with fans and host Candis Cayne on Thursday, Oct. 18. The show will air on January 23rd on Syfy.

So, we saw the first episode at NYCC and it was all hopeful until they crossed paths with a certain someone and then that person made the last few minutes heart-wrenching. We did learn that this season, there is no fear of Jamie and Claire separating and that the season would be of them settling down in pre-revolutionary United States and create a home for themselves. The show will air on November 4th.

Remember, there are a lot of new characters to look forward to:

  • Maria Doyle Kennedy – Jocasta Cameron
  • Ed Speleers – Stephen Bonnet, who is worse than Black Jack Randall.
  • Billy Boyd – Gerald Forbes
  • Caitlin O’Ryan – Lizzie Wemyss
  • Natalie Simpson – Phaedre
  • Tim Downie – Governor William Tryon
  • Simona Brown – Gayle
  • Rollo the Dog

Also, the season was filmed in Scotland.

The Gifted:

Like where we are now, in the show the country is divided. In that world, it is divided over Mutant rights. We will get to see Polaris as a child and we to see the history of The Frosts. While we see the Mutant underground vs. the Inner Circle. They’re also introducing the Morlocks into the season, and there’s something really appealing about their society and how they live. Add in the Purifiers and it will be an interesting season. Because they are not really in opposition because they are trying to help the Mutant race, they are at odds at how to make their beliefs come to fruition. Also. there is a chance we will see the X-Men on the show, because even if it is the mythos of the show that the X-Men have dissipated, Jeff Loeb says anything is possible.

Riverdale and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina:

First up – They cast Juggie’s Mom and Sister!

In the panel we learned that there will be Falice moments, because she is distracting herself from the revelation of Hal being the Black Hood and the issue with the Farm. However, with Gladys and Jellybean back (Gina Gershon will play the Serpent with a GED, Gladys Jones, Trinity Likins will play Jellybean. They will be debut on the December 12th episode and they are recurring characters)m it should be an interesting time for Falice. They are not the only couple who will be having problems.

Varchie fans prepare yourselves, it seems like the these two lovebirds will indeed be having issues. Separation does not always make the heart grow fonder. But, for Archie…Jughead is there for him, while he is fighting for his life.

Bughead fans that loved the Detective Duo in season 1 and in season 3 they are back, but think more like True Detective. They will be back as they investigate an “epidemic in Riverdale.” It is a very dark and twisty mystery.

Reinhart stated that, “It involves everyone in the town, and it’s kind of a crisis.” She added that by the end of episode one, Betty is left in a vulnerable state which ends in a cliffhanger. Dun, dun, duuuuuuuuuun. She also throws herself into her internship and But, there are quite a few mysteries that Betty is involved in.

The big bad of season three is the Gargoyle King that torments the kids of Riverdale.

There is a character from the comics, Evelyn Evernever, that causes trouble for Betty. And her father will pop up, Edgar.

In the throwback episode, the kids play the parents in a story that will focus on the parents when they were in H.S. This episode is the 4th episode and it will air on Halloween.

While both Riverdale and Greendale are in the same universe, these shows are pretty different. This show kind of reminded me of Buffy because there is a level of fun to it, but it is clearly a darker horror-based show. Sabrina is a powerful young woman that is dealing with the trials and tribulations of being a young human woman, but she also has this witch aspect to her life. In the pilot, it is evident that Sabrina is unsure about which world she wants to live in. However, being selfless and brave is at her core. In her world there are her aunts, played by Miranda Otto and Lucy Davis, Zelda (forthright and domineering and much more of the Father-like parent to Sabrina) and Hilda (loves the rebellious side of Sabrina and is much more nurturing) respectively and they have a typical sibling relationship where they work off of each other, but they love one another. Her cousin Ambrose, a pansexual. The actor who plays Ambrose called his characters relationship to Sabrina as “Alfred to Sabrina’s Batman.” Regarding Sabrina’s boyfriend, Harvey, his family has been in Greendale for generations and he continues to be a great boyfriend to Sabrina. Is there a Salem? Yes! But, it is not the Salem of the 90s.

Regarding the other characters:

  • Tati Gabrielle – Prudence
  • Richard Coyle – Father Blackwood
  • Bronson Pinchot – high school principal George Hawthorne
  • Michelle Gomez – Plays both Miss Wardell, Sabrina’s teacher, and Madam Satan — whom Michelle says, “…a joy to work with as such rich source material and that her character is more than just evil.

In regards to a crossover, right no. But, down the line…maybe.

The show will air on Netflix on October 26th and will have 10 episodes.

Marvel’s The Runaways:

Now, I know I was not a big fan of the majority of the show, but by the end of the inaugural season…I started to see hope in this group of kids who were cast out of the safe world that they lived in (by their own parents)…into the deep dark world that we all know and love. They eat at Pride soup kitchens and sleep under the underpasses. In regards to Pride, they have a new HQ. I actually work for a charity and let me tell you…nope.

So, the kids are still on the lam, but they finally find a place they can call home and it is the well known Hostel.

While Nico and Karolina are going strong in the second season. Nico has a lot to deal with, but she becomes the leader of the group due to her empathy and independence. Karolina is also trying to get answers about her family and getting comfortable with her powers.

Alex goes on his own journey (due to what happened at the end of season 1 and forms a new kinship that evolves) and he finds a new love interest and she comes in the shape of Darius’s sister-in-law.

Molly wants to be a superhero and have adventures and she does comes in to her own as she is the most street-wise of the group.

Chase is becoming a man in the second season. We also see the growth of Gert and Chase’s relationship, but there is the issue of Gert’s need of medication. Due to the group not having any money, there is no medication. The actor, Sulkin, says that “You never know someone until you live with them.”

In regards of Old Lace, Old Lace finds her place in the group and gets her own story arc.

Parent-wise, Robert is looking for justice. The Wilders want to get out of Pride and get their son back, but they have different ways of doing it.

Casting news – Jan Louis Castellanos who will play Topher.

That’s it for me…

You know what was odd…no Arrowverse shows.

Can’t wait for next year’s Comic-con.

Prior to the Con, the following news dropped:

Netflix to develop series and films based on C.S. Lewis’ beloved THE CHRONICLES OF NARNIA

Hollywood, Calif. – October 3, 2018 — Netflix will develop new series and film projects based on C.S. Lewis’ beloved The Chronicles of Narnia series. Under the terms of a multi-year deal between Netflix and The C.S. Lewis Company, Netflix will develop classic stories from across the Narnia universe into series and films for its members worldwide. All series and films produced through the deal will be Netflix productions, with Mark Gordon of Entertainment One (eOne) alongside Douglas Gresham and Vincent Sieber serving as executive producers for series and as producers for features. In total the Narnia books have sold more than 100 million copies and been translated in more than 47 languages worldwide. The deal marks the first time that rights to the entire seven books of the Narnia universe have been held by the same company.

“C.S. Lewis’ beloved Chronicles of Narnia stories have resonated with generations of readers around the world,” said Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer, Netflix. “Families have fallen in love with characters like Aslan and the entire world of Narnia, and we’re thrilled to be their home for years to come.”

“It is wonderful to know that folks from all over are looking forward to seeing more of Narnia, and that the advances in production and distribution technology have made it possible for us to make Narnian adventures come to life all over the world,” said Douglas Gresham, stepson of C.S. Lewis. “Netflix seems to be the very best medium with which to achieve this aim, and I am looking forward to working with them towards this goal.”

“Narnia is one of those rare properties that spans multiple generations and geographies,” said Mark Gordon, eOne’s President and Chief Content Officer, Film & Television. “eOne and I are excited to be collaborating with The C.S. Lewis Company and Netflix who have the capacity to translate the Narnia universe into both stellar feature-length and episodic programming. We cannot wait to get started on the multiple productions we hope to undertake.”

For Archie Comics fans,  they will be adding two new mini- series in 2019, BLOSSOMS 666 and JUGHEAD: THE HUNGER VS. VAMPIRONICA! Yes, I am a fan of the horror comics from Archie Comics.
For Game of Thrones Fans, Jon Snow’s Ghost will be back in the final season of the beloved and stress-inducing series.
That is it for me. Have a great week! Now, I am going to try to recover.

Doctor Who: There Are No Aliens in Sheffield

What is it about the Doctor, that no matter what shape or form…when we first meet the newest incarnation, the emotions that well up in fans is palpable.

As Jodie Whittaker’s 13th Doctor crashed through the roof of a train that has stopped due to an alien trying to target people to leave dna bombs in. The Doctor tells us that the planet is being used as a battleground between two alien races, but in reality it is a hunt. The target is a crane operator named Karl. Karl listens to motivational tapes that tell him he is valued.

The aliens we see are: one is in the shape of ganglia (Gathering Coil) and the other looking like an ancillary character from Halo (Stenza Warrior). The Stenza Warrior takes teeth as trophies from his victims and wears them on his face. Sexy, no? The Doctor calls the warrior Tim Shaw, because she refused to wrap her head around his name. It also helps get under is skin.

In a game of chicken, the Doctor and Tim Shaw are at a stalemate, but the Doctor got the one up on Tim Shaw. However there was a casualty, Grace. The Nan of Ryan, one of the companions, died valiantly as she tried to protect humanity by getting rid of the Gathering Coil.

Is this the end of Tim Shaw, I doubt it. He was not killed off and he got to transport back to his planet, which means that this will not be the last time we see this Stenza Warrior.

At the wake for Grace, The Doctor explains to the group how they can move on. Keeping them inside and remembering what they would have said and done. Desperate to find her Tardis, and after getting her new outfit (Cannot wait for next year’s con to see everyone dressed up as the latest Doctor), Graham, Yaz, and Ryan help the Doctor create a device that would allow her to locate the Tardis, but then something happens…

IMG_1154 (1)

So, now we have our Doctor and her companions. I have to admit that this Doctor has a lot of the qualities that Ten and Eleven had and that just makes me happy. In these strange times that we are living in, we need levity, hope…and a sense of wonder.

Actually, when she stuck her finger in her nose, she had me.

There was this bit, where we saw all the actors we would be seeing in this season and guess who will be in it?

Mr. Big, Chris Noth. I never thought he would be in anything sci-fi/fantasy.

Also, here is a hint of things to come:

What You Missed…

Well, right as we hit the equinox…my family was struck with the flu and I missed so much good news.

Episodes: 10

Fans of The Magicians, the popular book series will not give us a new chapter in a graphic novel. We will be reliving the first book, but from Alice’s perspective. It is scheduled for release in July 2019 and it is titled Alice’s Story. THR

We have a first look of Beast Boy from Titans from EW:

Random Walking Dead news revolves around two points:

  1. Andrew Lincoln wants to come back to the show during season 10…as a Director.
  2. Scott Gimple is not involved in the day-to-day of season 9, which we kind of figures as they hired a new showrunner for the show. TVG

Both these bits gives me hope because I feel like Gimple never thought of the viewers as a showrunner. How do you keep fans engaged takes a lot. But one way to keep them is to keep fan favorites on the show. Killing of Glenn and Carl were nails in the coffin. AMC wants to keep this show, so they need to figure out how to get the magic back.

The Gifted is on to it’s second episode of their new season, but the following are coming back to TV this week:

  • The Man in the High Castle – Friday, October 5th at Amazon
  • Van Helsing – Friday, October 5th at Syfy
  • Z Nation  – Friday, October 5th at Syfy
  • Doctor Who – Sunday, October 7th at BBC America
  • The Walking Dead – Sunday, October 7th at AMC

Next week, all of our CW favorites will be back and the following week…Daredevil and The Chilling Tales of Sabrina.

That’s it for me!

Have a Happy Monday!

What You May Have Missed…

It seemed like the weekend was filled with news from the silver screen.

We learned that the following movies are coming to a movie theatre near you in 2019:

  • The third Kingsman movie will be released November 9, 2019 and Matthew Vaughan will be back to pen the script and to direct.
  • The Joker movie that stars Joaquin Phoenix will be released October 4, 2019.

While we are talking about The Joker, the director of the movie posted the following and it is kind of unnerving:

View this post on Instagram

Camera test (w/ sound). Joker.

A post shared by Todd Phillips (@toddphillips1) on

The director also posted our first look at Zazie Beetz in the movie.

DC is in the midst of testing actresses for the upcoming Birds of Prey movie. THR stated that Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Jurnee Smolett-Bell, and Justina Machada are just a few of many that are testing for the movie that will star Margot Robbie as fan favorite, Harley Quinn.

The main group of the Birds of Prey consists of Barbara Gorden/Oracle, Dinah Lance/Black Canary, Helena Bertinelli/Huntress, and more.  These female superheroes go on special missions around the world.

Marvel has tapped Chloe Zhao to direct The Eternals movie. The is just the latest example of Marvel looking at the indie circuit to find some highly talented Directors that give its movies a less formulaic look and feel. Variety The Eternals are a race of humanity that are described as an offshoot of the evolutionary process that created sentient life on Earth.

Cary Joji Fukunaga (True Detective, The Alienist, Maniac) will take on the task of helming the next James Bond movie, which will mark the last movie starring Daniel Craig as 007 and the 25th James Bond movie.

Fantastic Fest is still going on in Texas and over the weekend people were raving about two upcoming horror movies:

  • Overlord – The story of two American soldiers behind enemy lines on D Day. But, that synopsis makes it sound like you will be watching a sequel to Dunkirk. That is not the case. Remember, in J.J. we trust. Moviegoers called it a ferociously gory war/monster movie and they loved it.  It will be released November 9.
  • Suspiria – A darkness swirls at the center of a world-renowned dance company, one that will engulf the artistic director, an ambitious young dancer, and a grieving psychotherapist. Some will succumb to the nightmare. Others will finally wake up. This is not Black Swan. It is actually a remake of a movie that came out in the 70s, which to me is the height of classic horror movies. Some viewers left the movie speechless, in a good way. Others stated that it was spellbinding and the scariest movie they had ever seen. It will be released November 2.

Finally, a director listened to the audience at a showing of a movie at a festival and takes action. Deadline noted that after the response from viewers at TIFF, David Mackenzie trimmed 20 minutes from The Outlaw King, which starts Chris Pine. I, personally,  do not think that this is a bad thing, People’s attention spans are short and sometimes the vision of a dedicated director can’t hold a movie goer. So, sometimes, snipping away until you find a movie that is under two hours and makes the viewer want to stand up and cheer is a must.

The movie is a true David v Goliath story of how the great 14th Century Scottish ‘Outlaw King’ Robert The Bruce used cunning and bravery to defeat and repel the much larger and better equipped occupying English army. It will air on Netflix on November 9.

That’s it for me.

Have a great day!
