Outlander: Freedom & Whisky and Decisions Made

Synopsis: As Brianna grapples with the life-changing revelations of the past summer, Claire must help her come to terms with the fact that she is truly her father’s daughter – her 18th century Highlander father. To complicate matters further, Roger brings news that forces Claire and Brianna to face an impossible choice.

This episode focused on the Jamie’s beloved women. Claire and Brianna.

After finding out the truth about who her Birth father is, Brianna is in a downward spiral. She withdraws from Harvard and tells her Mom that she is out and in dire need of a break.

Bri is struggling. trying to wrap her head around that she has two fathers. One, who raised her. The other lost in time and in history. Luckily for her, Roger comes to Boston for a chance of an American Christmas.

“I’m a historian. I pursue, it’s what I do. I’m like a dog with a bone.”

There are other reasons, of course, for his visit.

Brianna and he has found Jaime.

This little bit of news is heartbreaking. She is a Mother who does not want to abandon her daughter. She has created a life for herself in Boston. She has friends in Boston. It takes a lot of her to make that decision to go back.

But, it was a discussion with Brianna that propels her to do it.

That discussion and that final decision is the reason what the show is so good.

As Claire heads back in to the past, Brianna is not left alone. She has Roger, but will this be enough? When Roger speaks of how he learned of his father and how it made him him. Will this make Bri want to step through the stones to find and meet her parents in the past?

There were two highlights for me in this episode. The talk between Joe and Claire. This is why you need a true friend in your life. Joe knew all along that Frank and Claire’s relationship was a sham and when he learns that Bri’s father is someone else, he tells her to go after her second chance of love.

The other highlight was that moment when Jamie saw Claire in his print shop. He goes into shock and faints. It made me laugh, but I understood. To continue to live a life being in love with someone you swore you would never see again and then to see them…overwhelming.

Now…it is time to get to know one another again.

A Malcolm – After decades apart, Jaime and Claire finally reunite and rekindle their emotional and physical bonds. But Jamie’s new business dealings jeopardize the couple’s hopes for a simple life together.

Being Famous Is a Mixed Blessing for EXO…

My younger sister-in-law sent me a link to a talk show from Korea that is hosted by Kpop Music Mogul/Artist JYP and on it was a Kpop band I like, EXO. My husband even took me their concert this year…poor man. He was the only guy in our section. Thank God that we were right by the bar and food section.

Anywho, I watched the show that was sent to me and I felt so bad for these guys. Because, even if you become famous and rich, you can potentially end up losing so much that we take for granted.

Once you become popular and your fandom grows, the ability to live a relatively normal life dwindles and the fans become a bit more intense, as if they own them. And it does not matter what age the fan is. Their fans are so demanding. They will not let them date or even talk about getting married and having kids.

It is so sad. I thought one the guys was going to cry as he spoke about difficulty of being who he is. Almost to the point of walking away from being a part of this world.

At least, here, in the States…it is expected for popular artists to date, marry, divorce, remarry, divorce…it is a vicious circle. But, this is not the case in Korea.

I look at the guys and think of my own kid, who is their age. I would only want my kid to be happy.

Anywho, if you do not know who EXO is…check them out. They are quite talented, very charismatic, and give a great concert…as both my husband and I can attest to.

The Gifted – Why FOX Continues to Excel at The Superhero Genre

There is a recipe for a good show that is based in a superhero world.

That includes an ensemble cast that draws you in.

Amazing writing.

And the story has to have a realistic tone.

“There is nothing more important to me than my family.”

Here we have your average middle class family. Father is a prosecutor who has dealt with some mutant cases. Mom is a housewife and they have two teen kids.

Unbeknownst to the parents is that their kids are mutants. That all changes when an incident happens at a school dance.

The girl has had her ability for three years and has kept it quiet, until her brother is bullied and his powers come out in retaliation at the dance.

This event forces this family to go on the run in order to protect their kids.

The funny thing is…the Dad is called Reed. Like Reed Richards.

I digress, Reed turns to the people he has prosecuted for help. However, that means they have to go underground to a mutant safe house in Mexico.

Yes…Mexico.

So, does this happen in the world of Logan?

I am thinking…yes.

We also see the world of the mutants. These are desperate times and the Sentinel Services are on the hunt.

Knowing that Reed is desperate and the only one that can give intel on the status of a pregnant mutant who is being held by the government, Eclipse agrees to help Reed in saving his family.

But, all does not go according to plan.

Reed is left behind and the rest of the Struckers are in Mexico.

Will they cross paths again?

Will the kids survive in their new world?

Will the Sentinel Services track down this family and the mutants that are in hiding?

Only time will tell.

This is a show that should be on your watch list.

Next episode – RX:

Caitlin and Eclipse try to help Blink when her powers exceed their limits.

Outlander – Of Lost Things Recap

Claire gets less of the narrative than ever before in an episode that sees Jamie living his life in the shadows.

We’ve seen Jamie overcome a lot. The loss of the love of his life and his child, surviving the Battle of Culloden…barely, imprisonment, indentured servitude as a groomsman at the aristocratic estate of Helwater, and now walking away from his son.

We see him corned into having relations with Geneva Dunsany. As a result of that night, a wee bairn was born. This little boy, with a striking resemblance to Jamie, is the reason he sticks around as the Groom to Lady Dunsany. Before long, he knows it is time to move on because their resemblance will cause issue for both of them.

When that little 8 year old runs after Jamie as he heads back to Scotland, I teared. It reminded me of the moment in The Patriot, where the little girl chases her father and cries, “Don’t leave me.” Gutted.

The big question is, as a viewer, will Jamie and William ever cross paths again?

The only good thing is that Lord Grey and his Wife, Isobel, have promised to take care of William and Jamie trusts them both wholeheartedly.

Claire also had to walk away from the hunt for Jamie when the trail of ship manifests died at the National archive.  This affects Jamie and Claire’s daughter as well as she gets closer to her mother, but also has to stop her burgeoning relationship with Roger.

What an episode.

This season continues to amaze me.

It pulls at the heartstrings and makes you pray that Jamie and Claire find one another and we are one step closer to that moment.

The next episode is titled Freedom and Whisky –   Twenty years of longing erupts in tears as they reacquaint themselves. They are disconcerted and shy from…

To Stream or Not to Stream?

When Star Trek: Discovery came into the existence via the rumor mill we all thought that it would be must see TV, which it is. It has an impressive and likable cast and the writing is strong.

However, if you for some reason or another have plans and forget to DVR the latest episodes…your shit out of luck.

CBS expects you to buy an app and pay a monthly fee to watch the latest episodes for this little jewel of a show that is not set in the forensic, police, or military world.

Even of you already have cable, Amazon, Hulu, or whatever service or whatever method you have to watch your favorite shows.

This may a troubling sign for the future…or may be a huge a mistake for the network.

Getting Ready for NYCC

Right now, I am thinking about New York Comic Con. This year, there are a lot of panels that I am looking forward to.

Let me see…

The last time I really blogged was possibly a year or so after True Blood ended. I spent a good chunk of my free time running sookiestackhouse.com. But, I had to end that because I needed to focus on my family. That just tells you how hard it is to run a site and a podcast.

As of late, I have been paying a lot of attention to the evolution of media. Due to a lot of great content on TV, Cable and streaming services…there is no real reason to not find something that suits your tastes.

And so I am dipping my toe back in.

Right now, I am thinking about New York Comic Con. When I ran the last site, I was all about the comic cons. Truth be told, New York Comic Con has been one of the few things that I must attend on a yearly basis.

This year, there are a lot of panels that I am looking forward to:

  • Any superhero-related show – The Gifted, The Runaways, etc…
  • Archie – Riverdale
  • New Shows – Lore, Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan
  • Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency
  • American Gods
  • The Magicians
  • X-Files

Can I get to everything? No. But, I will try my hardest to get to some of them. I’ll try to take pics and post them.
