Day 3 of #SDCC is Here!

There were some more bits and bobs last night that may be of interest to you:

Let me tell you…Joss Whedon knows how to make a lady happy. We found out yesterday that there is a plan to reboot Buffy the Vampire Slayer. 20th Centure Fox has hired Monica Breen to be the showrunner of the reboot. Whedon is also attached as the Executive Producer and co-writer of the script.

Whedon has his hands full as his other project, The Nevers, will end up on HBO. He will not only be the showrunner, but he will also write, direct, and be the executive producer. The Nevers is an epic science-fiction drama about a gang of Victorian women who find themselves with unusual abilities, relentless enemies and a mission that might change the world.

We also saw the latest trailer for the next season if Preacher:

Yep! We get to meet the Allfather. I am not totally looking forward to it, but this dark and funny show is not for the faint of heart…is it.

Also, apparently Subway did not want to be associated with the show. Especially…with a Hitler working in their doppelganger store.

Now….Fantastic Beasts -The Crimes of Grindlewald:

I always loved the darker Harry Potter movies, so excited about this one and we get to meet Nicholas Flamel of the Philosopher’s Stone fame!

The official trailer for Godzilla: King of the Monsters:

The offical trailer for Shazam:

I am a sucker for funny superhero movies. Will this movie and Aquaman save the DC movie franchise, which is now called World of DC.

Here’s the much anticipated Aquaman trailer!!!!

Guess what?! Lobo is joining Krypton! Lobo is a Czarnian that is a mercenary/bounty hunter character in the DC comic universe. From what I recall, he was really popular during the 90’s due to him being an anti-hero and his popularity continues. It should be entertaining to see how much mayhem he brings to Krypton.

What You Missed from Day 2 of #SDCC

A bit of a review of the day’s news highlights from San Diego Comic-Con.

As expected, a lot has happened and some of it is a little bittersweet. We learned earlier that Andrew Lincoln was leaving the show. He wanted to spend more time with his family and with a show like this the whole work/life balance must take a hit.

The show will return October 7, which is the last day of NYCC.

Casting-wise, We learned of the introduction of Alpha and she will be portrayed by Samantha Morton. Greg Nicotero stated that means Beta may not be that far behind.

One last thing, Andrew Lincoln mentioned that this show has always been an ensemble and that fans should continue with the show…even once he is gone. However, as a fan, what shows fail to understand is that we fall in love with characters and want to follow them on their journey. So, once you start pecking away the characters we met in Season 1 and 2…it is really hard to stay invested.

Now, Star Trek: Discovery

Captain Pike is taking over the Discovery, say que?

Spock needs help? Dios mio.

And Tig Notaro!

Also…

To keep fans interested in the Star Trek-verse, since we will not see Discovery until early 2019, CBS All Access will get four new 10-15 minute episodes that will air in Fall of 2018.

Cloak and Dagger has been renewed for a second season. The show will be back in Spring 2019 with 10 episodes.

Here’s the trailer to the much anticipated Glass:

There are some details about the Venom movie panel, courtesy of THR.

Items of note:

  1. Riot will be in the movie.
  2. Venom is part of a world that Sony is creating around Spider-Man world. Jared Leto is in Morbius and there will be a Silver & Black movie.
  3. Also, do not count out a possible Venom and Spider-Man movie.

The movie will come out October 5th.

I believe the biggest news of the day really revolved around the James Gunn and his firing from Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3. He made light of pedophilia and rape a decade ago and what everyone fails to understand is that everything comes back to bite you in the ass. So, you have to be mindful of what you put on social media…at all times.

The good thing is that James Gunn accepted Disney’s decision. He could have gone all Markle and making a bigger mess out of the situation.

What You Missed from Day 1 of #SDCC

From Fan favorites to new shows, look at the latest news, teasers, and trailers from Day 1 of San Diego Comic-Con 2018.

Doctor Who is back!

The panel was held today at San Diego Comic-Con and here are some of the highlights:

1. When Jodie, aka as the Doctor , entered the room…they knew she was the Doctor.
2. This Doctor is a pillar of hope and is in love with life and is full of joy.
3. New Doctor = New Screwdriver.
4. There will be no old fan favorites in the big baddies department. We will be seeing new creatures as this Doctor and her friends will be on new adventures on standalone adventures.

DC’s Titans:

That’s right! Dick Grayson said,”F!ck Batman.”

And that is how you break away from the pack…of DC TV shows.

There was no panel for this show, unfortunately. Also, in order to watch this foul-mouthed do-gooder and his crime-fighting friends, you will have to sign up to the DC streaming service.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars:

Are you ready for the resurrection of a fan favorite?

This was a welcome surprise. Unfortunately, in order to see this…you will have to sign up to the Disney streaming service.

Disenchantment:

Matt Groening, The Simpson & Futurama, goes way back. This will air on Netflix.

Nightflyers:

We have been told that by George R.R. Martin that this is “Psycho in space” and it looks like a nightmare scenario, indeed. This will air on Syfy.

Origin:

Yes, that is Tom Felton of Hogwarts fame, but let us digress. In Origin, a chilling new original series from the producers of The Crown & Lost, we meet a group of troubled passengers as they wake up on a damaged spaceship abandoned in deep space. Each having left behind a dark past in search of a fresh start on a newly colonized planet, they’re desperate to survive at all costs. But as their terrifying situation spirals into paranoia, they come to realize that the greatest threat to their dream of starting over – and indeed their lives – might actually be within their midst… This will air on YouTube.

Some news to make note of:

  1. It was confirmed that this will be Andrew Lincoln’s last season on the Walking Dead.
  2. Greg Berlanti is going to develop a Batwoman series for TV. This character will be introduced in December cross-over event. Does that mean that we will eventually meet the Caped Crusader and his little sidekick?
  3.  Earlier this year, we learned that Geoff Johns resigned as DC’s Chief Creative Officer so he could pursue writing and producing. Well, we learned that he will be working on the new Stargirl series that Greg Berlanti will be the executive producer  of with Geoff Johns for the DC streaming service. It will air in 2019 and consist of 13 episodes. Do we even need cable anymore?
  4. Fans of Marvel’s Iron Fist show, that airs on Netflix, prepare yourselves. The bad guy for the upcoming season:                                                  Star Wars The Clone Wars

The Daughters of the Dragon, Misty and Colleen, would unite in season 2, which will premiere on September 7th.

5. Casting News: DeadPool 2’s Zazie Beetz ( the very lucky Domino) has joined Joaquin Phoenix in his turn as Joker. With Andrew Lincoln going off into sunset, the Walking Dead is adding to its roster with the additions of Fantastic Beast’s Dan Fogler and Into the Badlands’ Eleanor Matsuura for the 9th season. This will be an interesting transition…I am still not happy about Glenn’s passing…and do not get me started on Carl.

We will keep you posted on whatever catches our eye this weekend!

Upfronts: Odd Cancellations & Interesting Pick-Ups

The 2017-2018 TV season is coming to a close and that means all the networks, cable channels, streaming services are putting their wares out to show what’s to come…

This means that we have also learned what shows are returning and what shows are not returning.

I think the most shocking return was Agents of SHIELD, which will be back for a truncated 6th season. This was an interesting announcement because everyone was saying the 5th season would be the last and also because Infinity War changed everything in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and this show is tethered to the movies.

Outside of Brooklyn Nine-Nine’s cancellation, was the cancellation of the fan-favorite Lucifer. Fans started #SaveLucifer campaign on Twitter and as Tom Ellis, aka Lucifer himself, stated, “Power to the People.” The show is in talks to move to another home.
Honestly, if Constantine can show up on the CW and find a home on DC’s Legend’s of Tomorrow after being canceled on NBC’s Constantine…than it looks good for everyone’s favorite fallen angel.

Other surprises:

The return of Midnight, Texas, but it is to air Friday nights at 9 pm on NBC.

The 100 and iZombie were renewed over at the CW and they picked up five pilots among them:

  • Charmed – After the tragic death of their mother, three sisters in a college town are stunned to discover they are witches.  Soon this powerful threesome must stand together to fight the everyday and supernatural battles that all modern witches must face: from vanquishing powerful demons to toppling the patriarchy.
  • Roswell, New Mexico – After reluctantly returning to her tourist-trap hometown of Roswell, New Mexico, the daughter of undocumented immigrants discovers a shocking truth about her teenage crush who is now a police officer: he’s an alien who has kept his unearthly abilities hidden his entire life. She protects his secret as the two reconnect and begin to investigate his origins, but when a violent attack and long-standing government cover-up point to a greater alien presence on Earth, the politics of fear and hatred threaten to expose him and destroy their deepening romance.
  • In the Dark – A flawed and irreverent blind woman is the only “witness” to the murder of her drug-dealing friend. After the police dismiss her story, she sets out with her dog, Pretzel, to find the killer while also managing her colorful dating life and the job she hates at the guide dog school owned by her overprotective parents.
  • Legacies – Continuing the tradition of “The Vampire Diaries” and “The Originals,” the story of the next generation of supernatural beings at The Salvatore School for the Young and Gifted. Klaus Mikaelson’s daughter, 17-year-old Hope Mikaelson; Alaric Saltzman’s twins, Lizzie and Josie Saltzman; and other young adults come of age in the most unconventional way possible, nurtured to be their best selves…in spite of their worst impulses. Will these young witches, vampires, and werewolves become the heroes they want to be — or the villains they were born to be?

The CW renewed all of their DC assets, as well as Riverdale, Supernatural, Jane the Virgin and Dynasty. That is a lot of TV.

Besides the cancelation of Lucifer, FOX made a lot of other interesting changes for their fall schedule. The Gifted made it to the Fall line-up, but The Orville and Gotham are mid-season replacements. Also, the 5th season of Gotham will be its last. But, it will be the season where we see Bruce become the Dark Knight.

Outlander was picked up for two additional seasons, hurrah for me! But, they canceled Ash vs. the Evil Dead. I will miss their set-ups at Comic-Con.

Westworld was renewed for a 3rd season.

Amazon renewed The Tick and Jack Ryan, mind you…the latter has not even aired one episode of season 1.

Netflix renewed Lost in Space, Travelers and Jessica Jones.

Hulu renewed The Runaways.

EPIX grabbed the 10 episode prequel to Batman that centers on Alfred Pennyworth. It is being created by the dynamic duo behind Gotham. It is a standalone story exploring Alfred’s life as a former British SAS soldier who forms a secret company and goes to work with Thomas Wayne.

As news rolls in, I will update.
