Cavill Hanging Up His Red Cape and More…

It looks like Henry Cavill has officially moved on from the DC extended universe.

Due to scheduling conflicts that did not allow the British actor to make a cameo in Shazam, a new commitment to The Witcher series, and DC focusing on a much younger version of Clark Kent in The Supergirl movie, THR

It just seems like the time is right for the actor move on. It is also the perfect opportunity for DC to tweak their formula for the movies. I still believe there is something about the Arrowverse and other DC TV shows that allows them to grab the attention of and sustain its fans. The movies just have to figure what that magic ingredient is…writing!

Cavill

He definitely has a flair for the dramatic.

Will you miss Henry Cavill as Superman?

I will miss him in glasses.

Continuing with Casting News, Katherine Langford of 13 Reasons Why and Love, Simon will star in Netflix’ Cursed. If you do not know about the project, here is some info from a March press release:

Cursed is based on an upcoming book of the same name, Cursed is a re-imagining of the Arthurian legend, told through the eyes of Nimue (portrayed by Katherine Langford), a teenage heroine with a mysterious gift who is destined to become the powerful (and tragic) Lady of the Lake. After her mother’s death, she finds an unexpected partner in Arthur, a young mercenary, in a quest to find Merlin and deliver an ancient sword. Over the course of her journey, Nimue will become a symbol of courage and rebellion against the terrifying Red Paladins, and their complicit King Uther. There are 10 episodes slated.

Netflix has shifted from its touting of young love to all things that go bump in the night thanks to the new show, The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

Sabrina This is not the Sabrina you grew up with and if you want to get a little background on this character before the premiere, check out the comic series at your local comic book shop.

One of the best things about British TV is that it likes to dip a toe into classic sci-fi and it ends up churning out some of the best shows on TV. So, when we heard that HBO was going to co-produce and distribute His Dark Materials, I was ecstatic.  His Dark Materials is an epic trilogy of fantasy novels by Philip Pullman which consist of Northern Lights, The Subtle Knife, and The Amber Spyglass. The series revolves around two children, Lyra Belacqua and Will Parry. We follow their adventures as they wander through a series of parallel universes.

The cast includes Dafne Keen, James McAvoy, Ruth Wilson and Lin-Manuel Miranda. Deadline

There is another Book to Small Screen to make note of and it is because Netflix is continuing to ride the tails of the recent successes of their teen-centric films:

I do think that the  acquisitions of movies based on YA, chick lit, and a slew of other literary genres is incredibly smart. They acquire the rights to books that have a fandom in place and the numbers to prove that they are certifiable hits. It gives us, as moviegoers, a nice break from all the sequels, superhero, horror, and action heavy movies at the theaters.

Besides the whole debacle with Henry Cavill ties with DC, it seems like another comic book based property is also having a scandalous moment. American Gods, Starz, has lost its second show runner. To be fair, the cast and whomever is left is making it their business to keep everything going in hopes of getting the show on the small screen in 2019. Digital Spy

Before I go off on a laughing camel, I forgot to post the latest trailer for Daredevil’s third season.

Ok. That’s it for me.

Have a great day!

Happy Birthday, Harry Potter!

Happy Birthday to the boy that lived! He is 38 years old today!

9780439136365_xlgMy daughter is the one that got me into this beloved series. When she was in grade school, she told us that she wanted to go to the launch for Goblet of Fire. We agreed, but we did not know how popular the series was until we stepped through the doors of the local Barnes and Noble. Worker bees ran around as they kept the fans entertained. There was a sorting hat for pictures, butter beer experiments, and various activities for the kids. For the parents, we grabbed the books to see why these books were so popular. There I was, on the floor with my husband, and I reluctantly grabbed Prisoner of Azkaban. By the end of the night, I was hooked. I fell for Harry, Hermione, Ron, Sirius, and everyone else in this world. I grabbed my daughter’s books and read them in a couple of days. When the series ended, it was bitter sweet. This world was closed, or so we thought. Every year, I pick up the books to re-read them and I find these nuggets of wisdom that should be told to all those young and old. Here are some of my favorites:

  1. My favorite and the most apropos for the time we are living in is: “Happiness can be found in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.” – Prisoner of Azkaban
  2. “It is important to fight and fight again, and keep fighting, for only then can evil be kept at bay though never quite eradicated.” – Half-Blood Prince
  3. “We are only as strong as we are united, as weak as we are divided.” – Goblet of Fire
  4. “It matters not what someone is born, but what they grow to be.” – Goblet of Fire
  5. “Words are, in my not-so-humble opinion, our most inexhaustible source of magic. Capable of both inflicting injury, and remedying it.” –  The Deathly Hallows
  6. “It is our choices, Harry, that show what we truly are, far more than our abilities.” Chamber of Secrets
  7. “We are all human, aren’t we? Every human life is worth the same, and worth saving.” – The Deathly Hallows.
  8. “You think the dead we loved ever truly leave us? You think that we don’t recall them more clearly than ever in times of great trouble?” – Prisoner of Azkaban
  9. “If you want to know what a man’s like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors, not his equals.” – Goblet of Fire
  10. “We’ve all got both light and dark inside us. What matters is the part we choose to act on. That’s who we really are.”  Order of Phoenix

Since the ending of the series, J.K. Rowling has continued to feed fans more and more with the help of Pottermore and the Fantastic Beasts and because of that I feel that she has helped raise a generation and I want to thank her for that.

…Wait…Here is the Inside Look at Amazon’s Good Omens for #SDCC

The show is based on the book Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch. It was written by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman and it kind of reads like Monty Python or the Hitchhiker’s Guide…very funny…very British.

Here’s a little info on the premise of the book:

The world will end on Saturday. Next Saturday. Just before dinner, according to The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch, the world’s only completely accurate book of prophecies written in 1655. The armies of Good and Evil are amassing and everything appears to be going according to Divine Plan. Except that a somewhat fussy angel (Aziraphale) and a fast-living demon (Crowley) are not actually looking forward to the coming Rapture. So, they attempt to sabotage it because they like their comfy lived in merry old England.  And someone seems to have misplaced the Antichrist and then there is the issue of the Four Horsemen.

I suggest that if you are looking forward to the show, give the book a shot. You will not regret it!
