News You May Have Missed…

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving, but now we are back to the day to day of life.

To help you get through your Monday, we got a bit of a news recap for you that will help you as you chat with your colleagues, friends, and family.

Biggest TV news bite, well for me, is that our beloved man who saved Rick-than turned nutty-turned zen Kung Fu master-turned angry with the world Morgan from the Walking Dead is moving to Fear the Walking Dead. Lennie James, who portrays Morgan, will join new cast members Jenna Elfman (Dharma and Greg) and Garret Dillahunt (The Gifted) in the 4th season of Fear the Walking Dead. Production of the 4th season will commence on Monday in Texas.

If you are a fan of Lennie James, you can follow him on his journey to the new show:

We have our first teaser for A Discovery of Witches:

Will you watch?

If you do not know of the first book in the Lost Souls Trilogy by Deborah Harkness, here is a bit from From Publishers Weekly:

In Harkness’s lively debut, witches, vampires, and demons outnumber humans at Oxford’s Bodleian Library, where witch and Yale historian Diana Bishop discovers an enchanted manuscript, attracting the attention of 1,500-year-old vampire Matthew Clairmont. The orphaned daughter of two powerful witches, Bishop prefers intellect, but relies on magic when her discovery of a palimpsest documenting the origin of supernatural species releases an assortment of undead who threaten, stalk, and harass her. Against all occult social propriety, Bishop turns for protection to tall, dark, bloodsucking man-about-town Clairmont. Their research raises questions of evolution and extinction among the living dead, and their romance awakens centuries-old enmities.

Jude Law is just making the rounds. Last time, we learned he is our new Dumbledore (well, a much younger one) in the Fantastic Beasts sequel. Now, we learn that he is in talks to play Doctor Walter Lawson, a.k.a. Mar-Vell, a mentor to Brie Larson’s Captain Marvel. Law could join Rogue One’s Ben Mendelsohn, who will play the bad guy in the 90’s era Marvel movie. (Variety)

We got our first peek of Jurassic Park: Fallen Kingdom and it’s adorable!

Baby Raptors and Chris Pratt. It is on my list of movies to watch in 2018. They better not disappoint.

So, as I continue to take my time with the Punisher, which is great…but so dark and bloody. I decided to watch Marvel’s Runaways on Hulu. It is interesting, because I really do not know the backstory of the characters and it is not based in  universe I am well-versed in, I find it refreshing. Even though we only find out that two of the characters have powers, it is the dynamic between the kids that is intriguing. These are kids that know each other well because their parents are close (why they are close is the kicker), but their friendships fell apart after a friend of their passed away. Most of the Marvel stories we know of are based in New York State or in D.C. This is the first the revels in the warmth and privilege of the west coast. It will be interesting to see how this story plays out.

Did you watch TV this past week? If yes, what was your highlight?

Mine was Dirk Gently’s Holistic Detective Agency. Why? Well, our mad cap detective, Dirk, is seriously in the dumps about how this case is going and as a viewer…it kind of takes you aback. He has always been this super positive guy and in this moment of time he is as lost as we are. It got so bad, that even Todd just has to give up on his friend so he can attempt to save his sister, Amanda. However, everything falls apart for Amanda and Todd. They are in the middle of a war in a Fairy Tale land and all they allies have died due to massive confusion, gun running, and Suzie being in town and deeming herself the new queen of this land. Their only hope maybe back in our dimension (Panto, Bart or Farah) or it may be…Dirk, who finally gets his shit together and solves the case. Now, we only have three episodes to see how this story resolves itself.

Mr. Robot was a close second and that is because we see the backroom machinations of the Puppetmaster, Whiterose. Also, we get clarity from Irving, of all people, as he puts things in perspective for Elliot. The most disconcerting part of the episode was that Angela is spiraling because she wants to believe Whiterose so much, that she cannot see that she was played…like everyone else. The only one that really gets this is Dom.

Third was Outlander. In last night’s episode, we spend the majority of the episode watching Claire try to survive on this island that she ended up on after jumping ship in the last episode. This type of storytelling, focusing on one character as they try to overcome whatever obstacle is before them, is what I love about this show. She suffers as she holds on to hope and when all hope is lost, she is saved by a nutty priest. Now, if you thought we were going to have to wait another episode to hopefully see Jamie and Claire reunite…you would be wrong. They reunited in the second half of the episode and with the help of the nutty priest and his Mamcita and that the ship that Jamie was on having issues, we also watch Fergus Fraser marry Marsali. Marsali may be warming up to Claire, but the real warming up happened later in the episode after Claire has some of Mr. Willoughby’s turtle soup. Beset with fever from an injury and tipsy from the alcohol in the soup, Claire becomes ravenous with passion and we get our frisky pair back and it was fun to watch. We fear that the price on Jamie’s head may be the cause for all the fun times to come to an end…and we only have two more episodes before we are stuck in a droughtlander.

The OMG moment on TV happened when Rosita used a launcher to kill a Savior and as his partner got away…Daryl plowed into her car! That’s how you give your group a fighting chance, unfortunately…the rest of the group in The Walking Dead is not on the same page.
