Synopsis: After decades apart, Jamie and Claire finally reunite and rekindle their emotional and physical bonds. But Jamie’s new business dealings jeopardize the couples’ hopes for a simple life together.
This season has done the impossible by allowing us, the viewers, see what both main characters have gone through while they have been apart. But, now…they are together.
The reunion, though, was not as easy as you thought it was going to be. It was awkward, tough, sweet, and funny.
The reunion was sweet because Jamie learned of his daughter. You could tell how proud he was of his Brianna and he took the fact that Claire and Frank stayed married for Brianna, as he loved her as his own, quite well. Also, Claire was very accepting of the fact that Jamie had a son while she was away. This is a very healthy adult relationship. Except for one thing…
It was tough because, due to Jamie’s side business, he has had to live an interesting life and that means living in a brothel. Claire was not happy about this arrangement.
After they informed one another of the goings on in their lives, they started to get reacquainted and it was incredibly funny as he knocked into her nose, etc. But, once the awkwardness was out the window and they found their rhythm…la petite mort…bonheur.
The great thing about the episode is that we learn a bit of Jamie’s new life as a printer and as a criminal. Not only is he a traitor to the crown, still, but he smuggles alcohol. However, we see that Fergus is still by his side and when we see the moment of Claire seeing Fergus, I got all weepy. We also met 16 year old Ian Murray, but I l believe that this chance meeting may cause a lot of issues for Jamie. As I believe the comment during a discussion about the law, mentioned earlier in the episode, may mean that Jamie may not be single.
Also, the big hiccup for these two is that man that showed up in Jamie’s room. He was looking for ledgers, but now that Claire is back in the room and she gets very heated, we all know that this situation will most definitely go downhill fast.
Can these two have longer than one night of calm? I think not. What fun would that be?
Next – Creme de Menthe – In the aftermath of a violent confrontation, Claire follows her conscience as a surgeon, even though it could put her and Jamie’s lives at risk. At the same time, Jamie attempts to evade the reach of the Crown as its representative closes in on his illegal dealings.
